July 26, 2015 Seventeenth Sunday in
Ordinary Time
Dear Parishioners and Friends:
Jesus asked Philip, “Where can we buy
enough food for them to eat?” He said this to test him.
What is your experience of spiritual hunger? How have you satisfied that hunger in your life?
Why has God created us with so many hungers: physical, emotional, and spiritual? Why did 5,000 people
show up looking for Jesus? His words, stories, and
signs pointed beyond himself to the Paschal Mystery.
The test for us today involves more than
believing in Jesus’ power to multiply loaves and fishes. The test for us is to see the self-giving of Jesus as a
sign of the fulfillment of that “end-time” event that we
share even now. Can we see our lives as the manifestation of God’s lavish abundance? The twelve baskets of
collected left-overs are a sign that there is enough for
the whole world. When we give as gift what we have
received as gift, we are beginning to live a life of
stewardship.
Question for the week: What are my “Loaves and
Fishes”? What are the simple gifts that I have to place
in the hands of Jesus this week, to satisfy the hungers
of my own family and friends and of those who are
still strangers to me?

Next Sunday is Loaves and Fishes Sunday! What will you bring to church to share
with the hungry? We will bring them up at the
offertory. Next Saturday-Sunday is also a special Mass of Thanksgiving for Deacon Ron’s
two years of ministry with our parish.
Parish Pastoral Council elections: Who
would you like to nominate to run for the Council? We need 3 new candidates to serve for the
next three years. We thank Jim Craig and Juan
Lopez for their service to the Council as they
step down in September. Who would you like to
step up and serve? Please submit nominees to
Fr. Bob or Ken Jorishie. Parish Council Elections will be held the weekends of August15-16
& 22-23 at all the Masses. Deadline for nominations is Sunday, August 9.

have ben so especially faithful this
summer in your contributions, because things have been so financially
“tight” and we are almost scraping by!

Tiempo Ordinario
Queridos Feligreses y Amigos:
Jesús le preguntó a Felipe, “Donde podemos comprar suficiente comida para darles de comer?” Él dijo
esto para ponerlo a prueba.
¿Cuál es su experiencia de hambre spiritual?
¿Cómo ha satisfecho esa hambre en su vida? ¿Porque
Dios nos ha creado con esas hambres: físicas, emocionales y espirituales? ¿Porque 5,000 personas seguían a Jesús? Sus palabras, historias y signos lo señalaban al Misterio Pascual.
La prueba para nosotros hoy envuelve más que
creer en el poder de Jesús de multiplicar los panes y los
peces. La prueba para nosotros es ver el sacrificio personal de Jesús como una señal de cumplimiento de un evento
del “fin del mundo” del que compartimos desde ya.
¿Podemos ver nuestras vidas como una manifestación de
la abundancia prodiga de Dios? Las doce canastas que
recogieron de sobras era una señal de que hay suficiente
para todo el mundo. Cuando damos como regalo algo que
hemos recibido como regalo, estamos comenzando a vivir
una vida de corresponsabilidad.
Pregunta de la semana: ¿Cuáles son mis “Panes y Peces”? ¿Cuáles son los simples regalos que yo tengo que
poner en manos de Jesús esta semana, para satisfacer el
hambre de mi propia familia y amigos y de aquellos que
todavía son extraños para mí?

El próximo domingo es el Domingo de los Panes y los Peces! ¿Qué traerás a la iglesia para
compartir con los hambrientos? Los traeremos al
altar en el ofertorio. El próximo sábado-domingo es
también la Misa especial en agradecimiento por los
dos años de ministerio del Diacono Ron en
nuestra parroquia.

29. This is an energized group of caring parishioners
are meeting on Wednesdays at 7:15 PM in the Parish
Hall to unfold and plan our parish’s future through the

A VIRTUS class have been scheduled in your
area for St. Francis
Xavier School in Brunswick
on September 12th. This training is required for
Safe Environment Compliance for any adult who
will come into contact with youth as part of
their ministry (a listing of those ministries can
be found at http://bit.ly/1yU4Yk6), and must be
completed before they begin ministry. We also
invite adults who are not currently volunteers to
attend this training to learn tools they can use
to help keep children safe. Seating is limited to
only 25 spaces at each session and you must preregistration online to save your seat. To register, go to www.diosav.org, and find the training
listed on the Upcoming Events Calendar.
