ow, after Lent and Easter and the feast
following Easter, we are back into
"Ordinary Time"--the time of "numbered
weeks." This is the "season of the Holy Spirit," and
rather than name each one, they simply bear ordinal
numbers, hence "ordinary time." If you can remember
back to February, when we broke off for Lent, you will
know that the A-Cycle Readings of Ordinary Time (the
readings for 2014) are an examination of what it means
to be "God's Servant in the world." So today, as we
look at "servanthood" in God's name, we are confronted with the meek leader who rides not a steed with
a chariot, but a donkey, and who carries no sword or
bow, but instead, proclaims: "Peace to the nations!"
And the Gospel begs us to come to the Meek and Humble One, Whose yoke is easy, and burden light (for
there is no "baggage" of ancient resentments, and no
agenda for demanding everyone be alike), Who in
teaching humility imparts "rest for our souls." This
week calls us to a place of gentleness as we walk
through our lives. Maybe the reading knows something
we don't know! Maybe it senses that we will be in
places of challenge to our ego this week, and that we
will need this guidance. May we tread lightly on the
earth, this week.

appy Independence Day weekend. I hope
you & your families had a safe and happy
Fourth. I finished my retreat that day and
spent it in Malibu with other sisters of St. Louis. It was
peaceful and quieter than in the city with fireworks.
Our readings today do not speak of peace but of
the torment of grief, pain and violence. We were not
created to be in this state, but rather one of peace. We
need to look to Jesus as the one who can teach us the
way to true peace. He invites us to learn from him and
take his yoke upon us, so that we may join in his mission of lifting the burdens of others. Let us pray for
each other as we each face our own struggles and pain.
Have a blessed week, Sr. Karen
Dear St. Agatha Parishioners,
On behalf of the entire Whatley family, I thank you for
your many condolences and sympathy shown us on the
recent death our Mother, Mrs. Annie Whatley. Your
thoughtfulness, cards, calls, and conversations were
most supportive. May God bless you.

St. Agatha Dream Group is Back!
Summer Series: Prayer to Refresh My Soul
Once again offering parishioners and guests easy steps
to work with your dream and their meaning. It's been
awhile since we last met, and you have continued to
ask when we can meet again. We have scheduled August 3 from 12:30 to 2:30 PM as our gathering time.
Location to be at St. Agatha and exact meeting space
finalized closer to the date. We will offer a refresher
introduction and answer any initial question you might
have. As time permits we can work on one or two
dreams so come with your journals and written description of your dream.
Have you ever wondered how other people pray, or how
to expand your prayer so it feels fresh and meaningful? Or,
are you wanting to see how to deepen your prayer life and
your approach to God. A new summer series on prayer
will begin on Monday evening July 14 from 7 to 9 PM in
the hall. This 6 week gathering will give you an opportunity
to experience different styles of praying
Our gatherings are open to all who are interested in
their prayer life or have lingering questions about God and
prayer. We welcome your participation and any questions
you may want to discuss. We ask those attending to bring
some simple food/ refreshment for sharing at our family
food table. Please RSVP to the office. If you have any
questions, contact Josie Broehm at 310-791-1241. Our series will conclude with a simple twilight retreat.
Any questions, contact Josie at 310-791-1241.
See you August 3--keep dreaming!
