December 7 with the lighting of
lanterns and candles that illuminate

In several places of the
country, on December 8 white
flags are raised with the image
of the Virgin Mary in the
houses.

This celebration marks the
beginning of the Christmas
holidays in the country.

The day of the candles is celebrated in
Colombia as a vigil for the feast of the
Immaculate Conception of the Virgin Mary.

The dogma was proclaimed by Pope Pius IX
in an apostolic letter on December 8, 1854.
