It’s time to think about winter
Texas Gas Service recommends you have a qualified service technician
inspect your heating system before you reach for the thermostat. The service
should include cleaning or replacing filters and checking pilots, switches and
thermostats. Make sure you follow your manufacturer’s instructions for
routine maintenance.
> Get your home heating system ready
Winter is rapidly approaching and now is an excellent
time to inspect your fuel-burning appliances. Making
sure they are properly adjusted and in good operating
condition will save money and help keep you safe.
If you rely on space heaters to keep warm, remember
vented appliances are always best. Avoid using unvented
natural gas heaters or kerosene heaters in rooms that
aren’t well ventilated, especially bedrooms. And never
use your oven or gas range to heat your home.
Natural gas is a safe, reliable and efficient fuel and most Texans rely on it for
winter comfort. It’s important that the equipment you use to keep your home
warm is working safely and as economically as possible. So consider doing
that annual maintenance now, before the real chill of winter gets here.

> Here are some things to remember as
you get ready for the change of seasons:
• If you see a yellow furnace flame instead of a blue
one, it’s a possible warning sign that your natural gas
appliance is not burning efficiently.
• Clean or replace heating system air filters regularly
and follow manufacturer’s instructions in doing so.
• Do not block air intake areas near or around
appliances.
• Do not use a gas or electric oven, surface unit or
space heater to heat your home.
• Consider installing a carbon monoxide detector.
