Jesus said to his disciples: “The
kingdom of heaven is like a
treasure buried in a field, which a
person finds and hides again, and
out of joy goes and sells all that he
has and buys that field. Again, the
kingdom of heaven is like a
merchant searching for fine pearls.
When he finds a pearl of great
price, he goes and sells all that he
has and buys it. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net
thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.
When it is full they haul it ashore and sit down to put what
is good into buckets. What is bad they throw away. Thus
it will be at the end of the age. The angels will go out and
separate the wicked from the righteous and throw them
into the fiery furnace, where there will be wailing and
grinding of teeth. “Do you understand all these things?”
They answered, “Yes.” And he replied, “Then every scribe
who has been instructed in the kingdom of heaven is like
the head of a household who brings from his storeroom
both the new and the old.”

We continue this Sunday to learn from Jesus, the Master Teacher, who
not only speaks God’s word, but is himself that divine Word made flesh,
visible, audible, tangible, palpable. His parables meet us ‘where we are
at’, in the everyday stuff of life, but they also call us beyond the ordinary
so as to re-envision our lives and our world in a novel and fresh way, in
the light of God’s truth, which is truth. Today’s parables remind us how
the Christian is often a paradox. Much like the person who finds a
hidden treasure in an abandoned field, those who simply view the
Christian from an external and superficial way can only see the surface,
the ‘foolishness’ of setting aside what the world considers of ultimate
value – power, fame, wealth, pleasure, ease – for what the world sets
aside as a desolate field, as unimportant as foolish: Christ crucified and
risen. The Christian is an enigma; rather than opting for the cult of the
celebrity, the lust for wealth, the admiration of power, the hunger for
fame, the desire for pleasure, the security of money and the comfort of
ease, the Christian sells everything in order to ‘buy a field’. But on closer
observation we realize that instead of foolishness, like Solomon the
Christian is one who has opted very wisely. For she/he knows the
unsurpassable worth of what she has opted for, which no “moth can
corrupt, rust destroy, and no thief can’t steal” (Mathew 6:20). Before the
pearl of Kingdom and its Christ all earthy things – so prized and sought
by the world and flesh – simply dissolve and turn to dust. The
experience of finding this unique, exquisite and priceless pearl reverses all
values: what had appeared so important to us before Christ, we now
discard like old toys; and what we once were indifferent toward and
ignored is now at the core of what energizes our existence. Moreover,
this Kingdom and its Christ at the same time illumine what is of true and
enduring worth in our world and in our lives. And in its light, we can
judge how all things can find a new use and worth in the service of this
Kingdom; for even fame, power, wealth, pleasure and ease can be put
into a just and compassionate servic e on behalf of the gospel and of the
human person. And this Kingdom reaches out to all, like a great net
thrown into the lake, embracing and inviting all, although at the end not
all will respond. “Do [we] understand these things?” If we do and are
instructed in the ways of the Kingdom, we too will wisely bring forth
from “the storeroom both from the new and the old” the resources
needed to live in its true light rather than in the world’s limelight. And in
this way, like Paul writes, we will “conform to the image of God’s Son”
and not to the world, its values, its way of thinking and living. Thus we
will be able to offer all in our world what is truly worthwhile and
enduring.

#109, PGA Boulevard
From Interstate 95, take the Exit for PGA Boulevard East. The exit number is 79. Drive east on PGA Boulevard from the Turnpike
or I-95 and pass over the Intracoastal Waterway to U.S. 1. At U.S. 1, turn right (south) and get into the left-hand lane. The Center is about 1,000 feet south on the left (east) side of the highway. There is a sign at the entrance that says, "Our Lady of Florida”

Lets Pray For Peace
On the eve of an ultimatum issued by Islamists to Christians in the Iraqi city of Mosul, the
Chaldean bishop of Erbil, in nearby Kurdistan, urgedprayers for the nation's remaining
followers of Christ.
“We have hope that things will get better,” Archbishop Bashar Matti Warda of the Chaldean
Archeparchy of Erbil said in an interview withEWTN News on July 16.
“But … from the circumstances, which we are following, it looks like it’s going to take some
time.”
A militant Sunni organization known as the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has been steadily attacking cities and communities in north and northwestern Iraq since June. The attacks have begun dividing Iraq along religious and ethnic lines.
On Friday, July 18, ISIS issued an ultimatum to the Christians of the city of Mosul, which it captured more than a month ago:
convert to Islam, pay the jizya, or be killed. The cross a top the city's Syriac Orthodox cathedral was removed.
“They control the city and I think they made it very clear that there is no place for non-Muslims in the city,” Archbishop
Warda said.
Thousands of Christians have fled Mosul, seeking refuge in Christian villages in the surrounding Nineveh Plains and in
Kurdistan. The charity Aid to the Church in Need sent a grant of more than $135,000 to provide food and shelter for the
displaced in the region. Archbishop Amel Nona of Mosul told the charity in a recent interview that schools, church halls and
abandoned houses have opened up to receive displaced persons from Mosul.
Recent U.N. estimates place the number of internally displaced Iraqis at 1.2 million, nearly half of whom have been driven
from homes in the western province of Anbar. Many of those internally displaced are seeking refuge in Iraq's autonomous
Kurdistan region, which is known for its peace and stability.
Archbishop Warda said he has noticed an influx of refugees in Erbil over the past month. He said most refugees are renting
out rooms or apartments from locals.
“(It's) crowded, yes, and expensive, which is also another issue” the archbishop explained. “But, that's the situation.”
He lamented that many Iraqis have been living in a state of crisis for many years.
“We hope that things will get better (and) will improve for the lives of those people,” he said.
“But from what we are observing, it's not promising.”

El Papa Francisco reiteró su llamado a la paz en todo el mundo,
especialmente en Medio Oriente y en Ucrania, al tiempo que expresó
su cercanía espiritual a los cristianos perseguidos por razón de su fe en
Irak.
El Santo Padre señaló que “he recibido con preocupación
las noticias procedentes de las Comunidades cristianas en Mosul (Irak)
y en otras partes de Oriente Medio, donde éstas, desde el inicio del
cristianismo, han vivido con sus conciudadanos, ofreciendo una contribución significativa al bien de
la sociedad. Hoy son perseguidos”.
“¡Nuestros hermanos son perseguidos, son enviados fuera, deben dejar sus casas sin tener la
posibilidad de llevarse nada! Aseguro a estas familias y a estas personas mi cercanía y mi
constante oración”.
“Queridos hermanos y hermanas tanto perseguidos, yo sé cuánto sufren, yo sé que son despojados
de todo. Estoy con vosotros en la fe con Él que ha vencido el mal. Y a vosotros aquí, en la plaza, y
a todos los que nos siguen por la televisión, invito recordar en la oración”.
El Papa Francisco alentó a los cristianos en el mundo además “a perseverar en la oración por las
situaciones de tensión y de conflicto que persisten en diferentes partes del mundo, especialmente
en Oriente Medio y Ucrania”.
“El Dios de la paz suscita en todos un auténtico deseo de diálogo y de reconciliación.
La violencia no se vence con la violencia”.

Mateo 13:44-52
En aquel tiempo, dijo Jesús a la gente:
“El reino de los cielos se parece a un
tesoro escondido en el campo: el que lo
encuentra lo vuelve a esconder y, lleno
de alegría, va a vender todo lo que
tiene y compra el campo. El reino de
los cielos se parece también a un
comerciante en perlas finas que, al encontrar una de gran valor, se va a
vender todo lo que tiene y la compra.
El reino de los cielos se parece también
a la red que echan en el mar y recoge toda clase de peces: cuando
está llena, la arrastran a la orilla, se sientan, y reúnen los b uenos en
cestos y los malos los tiran. ¿Entendéis bien todo esto?” Ellos le
contestaron: “Sí.” Él les dijo: “Ya veis, un escriba que entiende
del reino de los cielos es como un padre de familia que va sacando
del arca lo nuevo y lo antiguo.”
La lectura de hoy nos presenta tres ideas importantes:
•
Las parábolas del reinado de Dios nos ofrecen la perspectiva y
“mente de Cristo.”
• Aunque la opción audaz por Jesucristo y su Evangelio
aparenta ser necedad para mundo, en verdad es la verdadera
sabia e inteligente decisión.
• Encontrar la perla del reinado de Dios nos permite re-evaluar
todas las cosas a la luz de ese reinado. Lo que no es de
verdadero valor es expuesto y lo que es de verdadero valor sale
brillando y es acogido.
Reflexión Dominical
Continuamos este Domingo aprendiendo de Jesús, el gran Maestro, que no solo nos habla las palabra de Dios,
sino que el mismo es esa divina Palabra hecha carne, visible, audible, tangible, palpable. Sus parábolas vienen al
encuentro de nuestras vidas, en nu estro cotidiano, pero nos claman mas allá de lo ordinario para poder
re-imaginar nuestras vidas y nuestro mundo frescamente con novedad, a la luz de la verdad de Dios, que es la
verdad. Las parábolas hoy nos recuerdan como el cristiano es muchas veces una paradoja. Parecido a la persona
que encuentra un tesoro escondido en un campo abandonado, el que simplemente ve al cristiano de un punto de
vista externo y superficial solamente puede ver la superficie, la necedad de poniendo a un lado lo que el mundo
considera de supremo valor – el poder, la fama, la riqueza, el placer, la comodidad – por lo que en mundo
considera como un campo desoló, de poca importancia o necedad: Cristo crucificado y resucitado. El cristiano es
un enigma; en vez de optar por el culto de los famosos, el ansia por las riquezas, la admiración del poder, el
hambre por la fama, el deseo del placer, la seguridad del dinero y el confort de la comodidad, el cristiano lo vende
todo para poder ‘obtener ese campo’. Pero observándolo más de cerca nos damos cuenta que en vez de necedad, como Salomón el cristiano es uno
que ha optado sabiamente. Él/ella conoce el valor insuperable de lo que ha optado, que ninguna polilla roe, ni carcoma, ni ladrones podrán
robar” (Mateo 6:20). Antes la perla del Reino y de su Cristo todas las cosas terrenales – tan estimadas por el mundo y la carne – simplemente se
disuelven y se hacen polvo. La experiencia de encontrar este singular, exquisito, e inestimable perla reversa todos los valores: lo que nos aparentaba de
tanta importancia antes de conocer a Cristo, ahora desechamos como juguetes viejos; y lo qu e antes tratábamos con indiferencia e ignorábamos, es
ahora el centro que energiza nuestra existencia. Aun más, este Re ino y su Cristo al mismo tiempo iluminan lo que es de verdadero y duradero valor en
nuestro mundo y nuestras vidas. Y a su luz, podemos juzgar como e stas cosas pueden encontrar nuevo uso y valor al servicio de Dios: porque hasta la
fama y el poder, la riqueza y el placer, pueden ser utilizados para el servicio del Evangelio y la persona humana. Y este Reino llega a todos, como una
gran red tirada al lago, acogiendo e invita ndo a todos, aunque no todos responderán. “¿Entendéis [entendemos] bien esto?” Si lo entendemos y
somos instruidos en los caminos del reinado de Dios, también nosotros sabiamente ‘sacaremos de la alacena cosas nuevas y viejas” los recursos
necesarios para vivir en su lu z verdadera en vez de a luz mundana. De esta manera, como escribe Pablo, seremos “conformados a la imagen del Hijo
de Dios” y no al mundo, con sus valores, su manera de pensar y vivir. Así podemos ofrecer al mundo lo que de verdad vale y dura.
