This year a dinner will be served in the Parish hall on Thanksgiving Day
at 1:00pm. All are invited especially those who will be alone on that day.

Thirty-Third Sunday in Ordinary Time
Trigésimo Tercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario
It is the age between our Lord's first coming and His last.
We live in the new world begun by His life, death,
Resurrection and Ascension, by the sending of His Spirit
upon the Church. But we await the day when He will come
again in glory.
Es la edad entre la primera venida de nuestro Señor y Su
última. Vivimos en el nuevo mundo iniciado por Su vida,
muerte, Resurrección y Ascensión, por el envío de Su Espíritu
sobre la Iglesia. Pero esperamos el día en que vendrá de
nuevo en gloria.
"Lo, the day is coming," Malachi warns in today's First
Reading. The prophets taught Israel to look for the Day of
the Lord, when He would gather the nations for judgment
(see Zephaniah 3:8; Isaiah 3:9; 2 Peter 3:7).
"He aquí, el día viene", advierte Malaquías en la Primera
Lectura de hoy. Los profetas enseñaron a Israel a buscar el Día
del Señor, cuando reunía a las naciones para el juicio (véase
Sofonías 3:8, Isaías 3:9, 2 Pedro 3:7).
Jesus anticipates this day in today's Gospel. He cautions
us not to be deceived by those claiming "the time has
come." Such deception is the background also for today's
Epistle (see 2 Thessalonians 2:1-3).
Jesús anticipa este día en el Evangelio de hoy. Él nos advierte
que no seamos engañados por aquellos que afirman que "ha
llegado el momento". Este engaño es también el trasfondo de
la Epístola de hoy (véase 2 Tesalonicenses 2:1-3).
The signs Jesus gives His Apostles seem to already have
come to pass in the New Testament. In Acts, the Epistles
and Revelation, we read of famines and earthquakes, the
Temple's desolation. We read of persecutions - believers
imprisoned and put to death, testifying to their faith with
wisdom in the Spirit.
These "signs" then, show us the pattern for the Church's
life - both in the New Testament and today.
We too live in a world of nations and kingdoms at war. And
we should take the Apostles as our "models," as today's
Epistle counsels. Like them we must persevere in the face
of unbelieving relatives and friends, and forces and
authorities hostile to God.
As we do in today's Psalm, we should sing His praises,
joyfully proclaim His coming as Lord and King. The Day of
the Lord is always a day that has already come and a day
still yet to come. It is the "today" of our Liturgy.
The Apostles prayed maranatha - "O Lord come!" (see 1
Corinthians 16:22; Revelation 22:20). In the Eucharist He
answers, coming again as the Lord of hosts and the Sun of
Justice with its healing rays. It is a mighty sign - and a
pledge of that Day to come.
Los signos que Jesús da a Sus Apóstoles parecen haber
llegado ya a pasar en el Nuevo Testamento. En los Hechos, las
Epístolas y el Apocalipsis, leemos acerca de las hambrunas y
los terremotos, la desolación del Templo. Leemos acerca de las
persecuciones: los creyentes encarcelados y condenados a
muerte, testificando su fe con sabiduría en el Espíritu.
Estos "signos" nos muestran el modelo de la vida de la Iglesia,
tanto en el Nuevo Testamento como en el presente.
Nosotros también vivimos en un mundo de naciones y reinos
en guerra. Y debemos tomar a los Apóstoles como nuestros
"modelos", como los consejos de la Epístola de hoy. Como
ellos debemos perseverar en la cara de parientes y amigos
incrédulos, y fuerzas y autoridades hostiles a Dios.
Como lo hacemos en el Salmo de hoy, debemos cantar Sus
alabanzas, proclamar alegremente Su venida como Señor y
Rey. El Día del Señor es siempre un día que ya ha llegado y un
día todavía por venir. Es el "hoy" de nuestra liturgia.
Los Apóstoles oraron maranatha - "¡Oh Señor!" (Ver 1
Corintios 16:22, Apocalipsis 22:20). En la Eucaristía responde,
volviendo como el Señor de los ejércitos y el Sol de la Justicia
con sus rayos curativos. Es una señal poderosa y una promesa
de ese día venidero.
