MODALS
Could have + past participle.
1.− I could have sent her a card, but I was too busy. Yo podria haber enviado una tarjeta a ella, pero estaba
muy ocupado
2.− He didn´t come to school yesterday. He could have been ill. El no fue a la escuela ayer. Pudo haber estado
enfermo
May and Might
Permisos y peticiones formales.
1.− You may use a pencil. Puedes usar un lapiz (si quieres)
2.− You may not smoke here. No debe fumar aquí
3.− May I see you again?. ¿Puedo verle otra vez?
4.− He may be the right man for the job. El puede ser el hombre adecuado para el trabajo
5.− You may as well / might as well go home. Mas vale que te vayas a casa
6.− You might like to join us for dinner. Quizas te gustaria comer con nosotros
7.− He looked like he might start crying. El parecia como si empezara a llorar. Mightque empezaron en el
pasado.
May / Might have + Past Participle.
1.− He may / might / could have been out of town. Debe haber estado fuera... (pero no se esta seguro de ello).
Must / Have to / Will have to
1.− I must visit my father in hospital soon. Debo visitar a mi padre al hospital pronto
2.− You must vaccinate your cat against rabies. Tienes que vacunar a tu gato contra la rabia
3.− He must be dead. Debe estar muerto (Seguramente esta muerto, Tiene que estar muerto)
4.− All students have to register by October 5th. Todos los estudiantes deben / tienen que registrarse ....
5.− I will have to get my hair cut. Yo tendre que cortarme el pelo
Mustn´t / Don´t have to / Needn´t
1.− You musn´t shout in library. Tu no debes gritar en la biblioteca (prohibicion)
2.− You don´t have to / Needn´t Shout. No es necesario que grites

Must have + Past Participle
1.− It´s terrible late. She must have stayed at work. Ella debe haberse quedado trabajando
Should / Ought to
1.− You look ill. You should see a doctor. Deberias ver a un medico (un consejo)
2.− Should / Shall I open the window? . ¿Podria abrir la ventana? (sugerencias u ofrecimiento de ayuda sin
saber la respuesta +)
Should / Ought to + have + Past Participle
1.− She should have passed the test, but unfortunately she failed. Ella deberia haber pasado(no se cumplieron
las expectativas)
