Dress Code Purpose The goal of the Bridgeport High School/Bridgeport Middle School dress code is to have a school conducive to learning, to prepare our students to enter the world of work knowing how to appropriately dress for success and to instill discipline. All students shall avoid dress and /or grooming that poses any hazard to the welfare, health, or safety of themselves or others. Articles of clothing which are distracting or disruptive to the educational atmosphere of the school are prohibited. Dress Code Violations Appropriate Attire 1. Undergarments must not be visible while sitting or standing. 2. Skirts, dresses, and shorts must be mid-­‐thigh in the front and back. 3. Hats or other headgear (including hoods) shall not be worn in the buildings. Headgear will be confiscated. When confiscated, the parent/guardian must pick it up from the school. 4. The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothes, hair or skin that: a. Are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene. b. Advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs or any other substance prohibited under FNCL (L). c. Refer to satanic, cult, or gang activities. d. Refer to hate groups and/or hate activities. 5. A. Students may not color their hair unless it is a natural hair color. a. Natural Hair Colors are considered as shades of: Brown, Blonde, Auburn Red, Black b. Unnatural Hair Colors are considered as, but not limited to: Green, Blue, Candy Apple Red, Purple, Pink, Yellow and Orange B. Designs cut in the hair will not be permitted. C. Mohawks will not be permitted. D. Male Hair: Must be clean, neatly groomed, spiked hair can’t exceed one inch and must be cut in a style that does not touch the eyebrows. Hair must be neatly trimmed. Hair must not be below the bottom of the collar. Students must be clean-­‐shaven. Sideburns may not extend lower than the bottom of the ear and must be trimmed in a straight line without flares at the bottom. E. Female hair: must be clean, neatly groomed and worn in a style that does not cover the eyes and must remain out of the face. 6. Tattoos must be covered at all times and at all school sponsored activities on or off campus. 7. Strapless shirts and dresses are not allowed. All shirts/clothing must cover shoulders…NO TANK TOPS OR CUTOFF SHIRTS. 8. For girls, earrings are allowed. Visible piercing other than earrings are not acceptable. Ear gauges are not allowed. Tongue, nose, eyebrow rings, spiked earrings are not allowed for females or males. Male students are not allowed to wear earrings or gauges. (Holes from gauges in ears must be covered completely.) 9. 10. 11. No pajama pants or bedroom slippers. Holes in clothing bigger than the size of a quarter are not permitted. If clothing has an allowable size hole, then leggings, spandex, or an undershirt must be worn underneath. Excessively tight pants, jeggings, leggings, yoga pants may be worn with a shirt or dress complying to appropriate dress code length (mid-­‐thigh). The principal may authorize special attire for special classes or occasions. 12. THE ADMINISTRATION WILL HAVE THE DISCRETION TO LIMIT ANY OTHER DRESS AND GROOMING THAT IS DEEMED INAPPROPRIATE OR DISTRACTING. A student that is written up by a school employee for being out of dress code will be sent to the office immediately. A parent/guardian may bring a change of clothes to school if available within the class period that the student was sent to the office. If a change of clothes is not available in the time period specified, the student will be sent to SAC for the remainder of the day. After 3 times in SAC for dress code offenses, the assistant principal, parent, and student will meet. If continual dress code violations occur, a student may be referred to ACE. Código de Vestir Propósito La meta del código de vestir de BHS/BMS es para tener una escuela conducida para el aprendizaje, para preparar a nuestros estudiantes para que entren al mundo de trabajo sabiendo cómo vestirse apropiadamente para tener éxito e inculcar disciplina. Todos los estudiantes deben evitar vestirse y/o aseo personal que sea un peligro al bienestar, salud o seguridad de ellos mismos u otros. Artículos de ropa que distraigan o que interrumpan la atmosfera educacional de la escuela son prohibidos. Violaciones del Código de Vestir Vestuario Apropiado 1. La ropa interior no debe ser visible mientras esté sentado o parado. 2. Faldas, vestidos y shorts deben de estar a la mitad del muslo por enfrente y atrás. 3. Cachuchas u otras gorras (incluyendo capuchas) no se usaran en los edificios. Se confiscara cualquier gorra. El padre/guardián debe recogerla de la escuela cuando es confiscado. 4. El distrito prohíbe fotos, emblemas o algo escrito en la ropa, cabello o piel que: a. Es lascivo, ofensivo, vulgar, obsceno. b. Anuncia o representa productos de tabaco, bebidas alcohólicas, drogas o cualquier otra substancia prohibida bajo FNCL (L). c. Se refiere a actividades satánicas, de culto o de pandilla. d. Refiere a grupos de odio y/o actividades de odio. 5. A. Estudiantes no deben de pintar su cabello solo que sea su color natural a. Se considera como color natural del cabello el café, rubio, pelirrojo y negro. b. Se considera como color no natural pero no es limitado al verde, azul, rojo manzana, morado, rosa, amarillo y anaranjado. B. Cortes diseñados en el cabello no se permitirá. C. No se permiten mohawks. D. Cabello de hombre: debe estar limpio, bien cortado, cabello en picos no debe de exceder una pulgada y en un estilo que no toque las cejas. El cabello debe estar bien recortado. No debe de estar abajo del cuello. Estudiantes deben de estar bien afeitados. Las patillas no se deben de extender más abajo de la oreja y deben estar recortadas en una línea recta. E. Cabello de mujeres: debe estar limpio, bien cortado y usado en un estilo donde no cubre los ojos y la cara. 6. Los tatuajes deben estar cubiertos siempre en todas las actividades patrocinadas en o afuera de la escuela. 7. Blusas y vestidos sin tirantes no son permitidos. Toda blusa/ropa debe cubrir los hombros...NO BLUSAS/CAMISAS DE TIRANTES O PLAYERAS CORTADAS. 8. Para mujeres se permitirán los aretes. Las perforaciones NO son aceptables solo los aretes. Aretes grandes (gauges) NO son permitidos. NO se permitirá a hombres y mujeres aretes en la lengua, nariz, cejas o aretes picudos. NO SE LES PERMITIRA A LOS ESTUDIANTES VARONES USAR ARETES O GAUGES. (Agujeros hechos por gauges en la orejas deben estar completamente cubiertos). 9. Ropa tipo pijama o zapatos de casa NO son permitidos. 10. No se permite agujeros en la ropa más grande que el tamaño de una moneda de 25 centavos. Si la ropa tiene un agujero de tamaño permitido entonces se usaran leggins, spandex, o una camiseta. 11 Pantalones apretados excesivamente, los jeggings, leggings, y pantalones de yoga pueden ser usados con una blusa o vestido cumpliendo con la medida apropiada del código de vestir (medio muslo) 12. La directora puede autorizar vestuario especial para clases u ocasiones especiales. LA ADMINISTRACION TENDRA LA DISCRECION PARA LIMITAR CUALQUIER OTRA VESTIMENTA Y ASEO PERSONAL QUE ES CONSIDERADO INAPROPIADO O UNA DISTRACCION. Un estudiante reportado por un empleado escolar por estar fuera del código de vestir será mandado a la oficina inmediatamente. Un padre/guardián puede traer un cambio de ropa si es disponible dentro del periodo de la clase cuando fue mandado a la oficina. Si un cambio de ropa no es disponible en el tiempo especificado, el estudiante será mandado a SAC por el resto del día. Después de 3 veces en SAC por ofensas del código de vestir, el subdirector, padre y estudiante tendrán una junta. Si continúan ocurriendo las violaciones del código de vestir, el estudiante puede ser referido a ACE.
