Key Activity “Volume of a solid of revolution”
Calculus II (PM6013)
Second part
The following activities are carried out at this stage:
1) Build with the use of some design software (Wolfram Mathematica, SolidWorks) a virtual 3D model
of the modeled object.
2) Estimate the volume of the solid of revolution using definite integrals.
a. Write and evaluate the necessary integrals for the solid of revolution. Use the equations of the
modeled piecewise function. In case the integral of any of the equations is difficult to evaluate,
use GeoGebra or Wolfram Alpha to do it.
b. Add the volume of each section to get the total volume of the solid of revolution.
3) Prepare a report in Word that includes the following information.
a. Screenshot of the virtual model in 3D of the object
b. Estimation of the volume of the solid of revolution, writing the necessary integrals and the
evaluation process. Integrals can be written using Word's equation editor, or they can be
handwritten and scanned. When using a program to evaluate the integrals, attach a screenshot
that shows the integral and the result.
4) Send the report through CANVAS.
