S alvation History opens as Abraham, a pagan searcher, “hears” the call of God, and follows where it leads. How he heard that call is the subject of Midrash, and if you behave yourselves at Mass, I’ll share some of it with you, but the question the Book of Genesis asks is: “How will Abraham continue to hear the Divine Voice?” And to this God tells him, “Get out of Dodge!” It’s not what your country wants, or your ethnic group, or even your father/family--what I want is deeper, it is what YOU need to do, think, say and feel to be YOU, as I made you to be.” So, Abraham leaves home. BUT, as any twelve-step program will tell you, ‘geographical cures’ rarely work; what Abraham will have to do to “hear” that Voice will be the subject of the next twelve chapters of Genesis. What YOU need to do will be the subject of your Lenten journey. The Gospel is the story of the Transfiguration, whcih tells us that after all the bells and whistles, it’s simply “listening to the Voice,” that is our calling. So how will YOU come to listen this Lent? -Fr. - Padre Bill Axe Would you like to add family members who are sick to our Sick List? An impure word spoken in jest may prove a scandal to others, and sometimes a word of double meaning, said in a witty way, does more harm than a word openly impure.” - St. Alphonsus Liguor To build and foster a Christian Community that offers the opportunity to experience God God’s ’s unconditional love and acceptance to all who come into contact with it. L ent is traditionally understood as a time of giving things up. Today’s readings suggest that we need to give up certain old ways of thinking and to listen to Jesus. Our Lenten discipline should not only be one of giving up things, but also one of actively listening to Jesus in prayerful reflection on scripture. Thank you to all who have pledged to Together In Mission to help us reach our goal. If you have not done so yet, please prayerfully think about it as this campaign aids our own brothers and sisters who are in need. We are so good to the missionaries when they come to ask. This is bringing that sharing home to our own neighbors. Again thank you. Nuevamente, gracias. Que tengan una semana maravillosa, Hermana Karen TOGETHER IN MISSION PLEDGE BILLINGS RECORDATORIOS DE PAGO DE UNIDOS EN MISIÓN The monthly pledge billings for the Together in Mission pledges have been mailed. Once the pledge payments have exceeded our goal, we receive all of the additional funds for use in our parish ministries. The Trinitarian Fathers, which is the Religious Community to which Fr. Bill and Fr. Frank belong, has a network of missions that do outreach in those regions. In India, they are working in Orissa and Assam with Christians who were forced out of their homes and villages, where their churches, homes and stores were burned by radical Hindu groups, and they had to live like animals hiding in the forests. We have a mission there, now, that helps to feed the poor, we’ve rebuilt a school, a church, and we are in the process of building houses in safer areas for them. The Holy Father, last week, asked our General if we would use our resources to gain aid for the Christians in Syria, where the civil war has destroyed not only the infrastructure of the nation, but also the “trust” that religious groups once had in each other. This has resulted in vicious persecution of Catholics, nuns are being held hostage. And Pope Francis has asked our community and a couple of others to see what we can do to raise funds for the work that needs to be done there. And, in Egypt, the radical Islamists have burned churches-some that dated to the 4th century, and homes and businesses of Christians. Some of this money will go to our effort in Egypt, too. We thank you for what you can do. The suffering Church thanks you for your aid. March 22—Religious Ed, Contact Tere "NOBODY CAN DO EVERYTHING BUT EVERYBODY CAN DO SOMETHING" It is said that March comes in like a lion. not so on March 1, 2014 in the PC kitchen area. The rain storm came but it was no match for the enthusiastic atmosphere of compassion, love, joy and hope of Abigail, Anabel, Isabella, Elisa, Valerie and Edward the students from Cathedral Chapel School and their proud loving supportive parents. They came to share their gifts of time and talent for our guests and no rain storm was going to prevent them for their goal of this day. They prepare sandwiches, filled the bags and served our guests in the pouring rain. The number of guests for the day was low because of the weather but those that came were met with such happy smiling faces so full of love that they guests when they left to go face the rain again walked a little different and most of them had a smile on their faces. They saw that someone cared even in the storm and this we believe and pray stimulated some hope in their day. Our faithful volunteers Addie who drove in the storm from a long distance , our brothers Rolando, Enrique David, Maria and her son Joshue, Flora and Natalie B all came to serve our guests. We are humbly appreciative and grateful that God knows our needs and blessed the S.H.A.R.E. Ministry by sending March 29—Youth Group, Contact Maggie these angels and saints to serve and do works in the name of Jesus.. Amen Today we will be distributing the S.H.A.R.E. Lenten Grocery Bags. If you are able please take one to fill with the attached list of needs for our Saturday Guests and return Sunday March 30 and April 5 when you come to mass. Please share this sacrifice request with your family and especially the children and youth this is an awesome opportunity to teach them about sharing and giving to help someone who is in need. Maybe instead of buying chips they can buy a can of vegetables with that $1.00. Please feel free anytime you want to storm heavens gate with prayer for our guests for whatever God feels they need. On Saturday April 26 we plan to serve our Annual sit down Hot Resurrection Meal for our guests. We are in need of 5 # 10 size cans of cut green beans 200 dinner rolls and 2 gallons of milk for the children If you want to catch the after Easter sale on paper wrapped candies we could use these too. Thank you for your support. May this week as you journey with Gods presence shinning through you may you find many moments of love, comfort and peace as He stimulates your acts of kindness that you share with those on your path. Amen. Blessings, The S.H.A.R.E. Ministry Thank you for your support. How Old Does a Child Need to Be in Order to Stay Alone? Do not assume that when your child understands what you are saying, he is ready to walk out the door by himself. Besides the fact that many states have laws against leaving children of certain ages alone (for example, younger than 12), experts say children should not be left by themselves until they are capable of fighting off an abductor or handling a crisis situation. Experts also say children do not have the mental maturity to cross busy streets by themselves until they are about 10 or 12 years old. Finally, parents who are certain their young children would never walk away with a stranger will be shocked to learn that studies show they probably will. Stay alert and vigilant, even if you believe your child is aware of possible dangers from others. Ministry, (213) 637-7650.
