Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima/Queridos parroquianos y amigos de
Nuestra Señora de Fátima:
We come to the end of the Easter Season with the celebration of Pentecost Sunday. We have journeyed for 50 days from Easter Sunday to today – Pentecost actually means 50th. On the 50th day
after Passover the Jews celebrated a thanksgiving feast for the barley harvest. They also remembered the giving of the covenant to Noah after the flood and Moses receiving the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai.
The early Christians remembered the giving of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles and to the Church
on the first Christian Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles as tongues of
fire and with a loud wind. At that moment the Church was born. The Apostles were so on fire
with the Spirit of Jesus that they immediately went out and preached the good news. There were
literally thousands of people who came into the church in those early days.
Two thousand years later God wants to continuously ignite a spiritual fire within Church. I am
reading a book by Matthew Kelly called The Four Signs of a Dynamic Catholic. He suggests that the Holy Spirit can ignite a fire
within each of us by doing four simple things:
1
Spend ten minutes each day in prayerful conversation with God.
2
Read five pages of a great Catholic book each day.
3
Give 1 percent more of your income to support the mission of your parish than you gave last year.
4
Do one thing each week to share the genius of Catholicism with someone else (i.e., a Catholic article, a Catholic book,
a Catholic CD or a Catholic DVD).
In this way, we all can do our own personal best to ignite the fire of the Holy Spirit within Our Lady of Fatima Parish and among
San Clemente Catholics today!

Stocking the pantry
Our parish’s monthly food collection is a vital and consistent
source of food for the local pantry operated by our ministry partner Family Assistance Ministries (FAM.) The food
collection takes place on the 4th Sunday of each month and
is delivered to FAM’s pantry by parish volunteers. Empty
grocery bags are available this weekend with a list of needed
items. Pick one up and return it next week. All are invited to
assist with the food collection, including families and teens.
For more information, contact Dixie Gillivan at 361-0792.

Catholic Men’s Fellowship Meeting
MAY 23, 7 - 8:30 PM | MAY 25, 6:30 - 7:55 AM
We are called by God to be able to give reasonable answers in
defense of our Catholic faith. We should be involved (even if
it’s only a little) to be ready to have answers with gentleness
and reverence. Join us as we discover how we explain our
beliefs and justify our positions against non-Catholic misconceptions about the Catholic Church and its teachings.
We are an informal group of men who discuss topics about
faith, fatherhood and fraternity through Catholic eyes. We
meet in McGowan Hall on the 2nd and 4th Saturday morning of each month and on the 2nd and 4th Thursday evening.
Our casual settings allow us to share modern issues that are
sometimes up-close and personal. Contact Gil Manalo at
[email protected] or Jim Ryder at [email protected].
