HACE...QUE
with expressions of time
En español, to explain how long something has been going on, you use the construction:
HACE + the period of time + QUE + the present tense
Ejemplos:
HACE una hora QUE espero.
(I’ve been waiting for an hour.)
HACE dos años QUE Roberto es médico. (Roberto has been a doctor for two years.)
HACE veinte minutos QUE yo estoy en el CONSULTORIO.
(I have been at the doctor’s office for 20 minutes.)

►Hace una hora que Elena escucha música.
6. We have been living here for ten years.
HACE diez AÑOS QUE nosotros VIVIMOS AQUí.

¿Cuánto tiempo...?
If you are asking HOW something LONG SOMETHING HAS BEEN GOING ON, use the
construction:
¿CUÁNTO TIEMPO + hace + que + present tense?
¿Cuánto tiempo HACE esperas? (How long have you been waiting?)
¿Cuánto tiempo hace que conduces? (How long have you been driving?)
HACE dos años QUE CONDUZCO.
I have been driving for 2 years.
¿Cuánto tiempo ___________ __________ ustedes viven en Puerto Rico?
(How long have you been living in Puerto Rico?)
__________ cinco ___________ que _______________ en Puerto Rico.
We have been living in Puerto Rico for five years.
AGO
If you are talking about the PAST, use the PRETERITE and HACE QUE to say AGO.
HACE + the period of time + QUE + PRETERITE
HACE un año QUE FUI a Madrid. (I went to Madrid a year ago.)
You can also put the verb first. When the verb comes first, you do not need QUE.
LIMPIé mi cuarto HACE dos semanas. (I cleaned my room two weeks ago.)

En tu proyecto you are going to say how long ago you did something. Use “HACE…QUE y el PRETÉRITO”!
