Mecanismos utilizados para fomentar la movilidad
En la Maestría en Educación se ofrece como opción que el alumno lleve uno de los cursos
avanzados de especialidad en la Universidad de El Paso en Texas. Se hace la oferta de tres
cursos que ofrece UTEP y el alumno elije cuál de ellos llevar. Éste curso le será tomado en
cuenta en su plan de estudios y además se le entrega una constancia de su participación.
La promoción de estos cursos se hace a través del correo electrónico, en una invitación oficial a
todos los alumnos que estén por inscribir una materia avanzada. Se les dan a conocer los
requisitos que se piden para poder llevar la materia y se hace una lista de posibles alumnos de
intercambio.
Finalmente se elije a los participantes y se hace el intercambio.
Lo mismo sucede con alumnos de UTEP que llevan el curso Psicología del Aprendizaje con
nosotros.
Este es un ejemplo de un curso ofrecido por UTEP.

Current Topics In Bilingual/ESL(3-0) An exploration of contemporary issues related to research
and practice in the field of Bilingual/ESL. . . .
-Objectives:
Acquire a better understanding of past and present research that attempts to explain why English
language learners, immigrants, and students of Mexican-descent academically perform the way(s) that
they do.
You will be knowledgeable in the following:
Qualitative research and the role(s) it plays in informing teachers, administrators, and policy-makers on
the dynamics of family, language, and culture in the schools and the communities in which they exist.
The role(s) that support networks in schools play in the schooling lives of students of Mexican-descent.
The variables involved in the success of diverse student populations, with an emphasis on students of
Mexican-descent.
Bilingual and native language education. The role(s) that play in the struggles and successes of English
language learners.
The social, cultural, academic, and political aspects of English language learning and acquisition within
various contexts (inside and outside of school)
These learning objectives and outcomes will be achieved through dialogue, debate and writing
exercises. Each student will be responsible for participating in this course having read the materials and
prepared to engage in discussion and dialogue with other class members.
-Topics:
Some topics include the importance of listening to "student voice" on effective teaching and learning,
the role(s) of social and academic support networks, and the historical, social, and institutional roles of
Latino and Chicano student success.
