Reflexión Semanal Weekly Reflection Ever Joyful Siempre Gozosos Today’s readings and prayers remind us that our time in this world is temporary. Jesus has shown us through his resurrection and ascension that our final destination is heaven. He has come to earth, taken the form of man, and lived among us so that he could conquer death and make eternal life possible. The reading from Acts records the difficulty the disciples have in letting go of Jesus’ physical presence. As they are looking heavenward, “the two men dressed in white” remind them that, “this Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way.” This is indeed Jesus’ promise. Paul writes to the Ephesians that he prays that “the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of [Jesus].” We truly must live with enlightened hearts that realize when life is burdensome, it is not the end but a transition. Letting go of the familiar is not easy. The concrete, the present, -- the things that we experience in a tactile manner are difficult to surrender. Yet, Paul continues in his letter to encourage us to recognize and embrace “what is the hope that belongs to his call.” This hope is a faithfilled expectation that we will see Jesus as he sits at the right hand of his Father. We are an Easter people and this is what we believe. The fact that Jesus has experienced our earthly journey gives us great consolation. We ask God to “gladden us with holy joys and make us rejoice with devout thanksgiving for the Ascension of Christ is our exaltation” (Collect). -2- Parish Life Happy Anniversary Baptisms Please pray for the recently baptized as they begin their journey in the Body of Christ Jim & Diane Ellis 47 Years on May 17 Gerald & Ana Miller 37 Years on May 20 —————————————————— In Remembrance Dan & Phyllis McGrath 20 Years on May 20 Please pray for those who have recently passed away and for their families Tom & Maria Lawson 13 Years on May 18 Luis Gutierrez ______________________________________ Joseph & Diane Domitrovich 6 Years on May 19 To list anniversary, please email [email protected] by 5pm the Friday of the week before you wish it published.
