6th Sunday of Easter C
In the gospel Jesus says: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives
do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” It is important to understand
the context of this passage. Jesus says this to his disciples in the time after his resurrection and
before his ascension into heaven.
The gospel of John was written in Greek. The Greek meaning of the word “peace” denotes a
state of untroubled, undisturbed, well-being. This is the peace that St. Augustine wrote of
when he said: “Our souls are restless until they rest in God.” This is, perhaps, why Jesus says
that he gives this peace “not as the world gives do I give it to you.” Jesus is telling his disciples
that true peace will not come to any disciple of his until after death. True peace is union with
God.
Mother Angelica gave a short lesson on Jesus’s words: “Do not let your hearts be troubled or
afraid.” Her point is we should not let our hearts be troubled or afraid because Jesus provides
a cure for troubles and fears. Jesus didn’t say don’t be troubled or afraid but said “do not let
your hearts be troubled or afraid.” Don’t let your heart be troubled or afraid; ask Jesus to help
you. Jesus I trust in you.

En el Evangelio, Jesús dice: "La paz os dejo, mi paz os doy. No como el mundo la da, yo la doy.
No deje que se angustien ni tenga miedo".
Es importante entender el contexto de este pasaje. Jesús dice a este los discípulos en el
tiempo después de su resurrección y antes de su ascensión al cielo.
El Evangelio de Juan fue escrito en griego. El significado griego de la palabra "paz" se refiere a
un estado de bienestar, tranquilo, sin problemas. Esta es la paz que San Agustín escribió
cuando dijo: "Nuestras almas están inquietos hasta que descansen en Dios" Este es, tal vez,
por qué Jesús dice que él da esta paz "no como el mundo la da, yo lo doy a usted.” Jesús está
