INFORMATION ABOUT HOW TO OBTAIN THE CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION IN MUNICIPALITY
(EMPADRONAMIENTO)
Required documents to be registered in municipality in the list of inhabitants for change of
address or new registrations:
1. Original and photocopy of the document which verifies the identity of the people to be
registered:
1.1.- Spanish citizens: Valid DNI or passport (original and photocopy of the family book
for children under fifteen years old.)
1.2.- European and non european citizens: Original and photocopy of valid passport
issued in their home country and/or Spanish residence card and N.I.E.(Foreigner´s Identification Number,
if you own it).
2. Documents vhich can verify vhere you are living:
2.1.- If you are the owner of the property, you have to present the original and copy
property title deeds or any document in section 2.3.
2.2.- If you have a rental contract, you must bring the original and photocopy of the
document and the owner's identity card or passport.
2.3.- In the case that the most recent gas, water, electricity, fixed line (not mobile) or
property tax (IBI) bills are in your name, you must deliver any one of them with a photocopy to the
office.
2.4.- In the case of demonstrating the occupation of your dwelling with any of the
documents in sections 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3, without being the account holder of any of them, any of the
documents previously mentioned in the different sections must be brought with the filled “written
authorisation form” signed by the account holder together with his/her identity card or passport copy
(see section 1).
3. Change of address or new registrations in Vélez Málaga municipality for minors who live with
one of their parents or a different person from their parents, please, ask for information in this office.
New registrations for birth or de-registrations following a death are done automatically by the Civil
Registry. But if you wish to make these arrangements yourself, you must hand in the original and copy of
the birth/death certificate, depending on the case, and your identity card/passport.

The responsible department can ask for any other complementary documents neccessary to obtain the
certificate of living in municipality.
