! ! Elkin Robinson is a singer-­‐musician, composer, producer and sound engineer, born on the Colombian island Providence, in the Wider Caribbean. Afro-­‐Caribbean rhythms, such as calypso, mento, reggae and zouk, are his main source of inspiration. In 2014, after founding and forming part as lead vocalist of the band Zouké Root in Barcelona for seven years, Elkin releases his first soloist album in his county; “Come ’round”. This album was produced by Richard Blair, Diego Gómez from Llorona Records and musicians from the archipelago, during the artistic residence Old Providence Sound Setters. Come ’round, an Ep of five songs, refreshes the traditional musical genres of Providence Island and the Caribbean, such as calypso and mento (predecesor of ska and reggae), while using organic instruments like the acoustic guitar, the horse jaw-­‐bone and the tub (which produces a muted bass sound). Robinson transmits positive messages which are sang in creole; the native language of the island, which is a mix of English, African and Dutch. The album was greeted with an enthusiastic reception amongst the public and the media, and received several acknowledgements and nominations. It was awarded for the nomination in the category DIH LANG PLIEH (Album of the year) at the Enai Awards 2014 which took place in the Archipelago of San Andres Islands, and was also nominated for the Shock Awards 2014 (Colombia’s national music awards), in the categories “Best New Artist” and “Best Shock Presents”. Elkin Robinson has taken his music and the creole vibration to different events like the 20th anniversary of the festival Rock al Parque (Bogotá), the festival Feria de las Flores (Medellin); La Noche del Rio (Carnal in Barranquilla); the Mercado del Caribe, in Cartagena; the theatre Teatro Mayor Julio Mario Santo Domingo; and at the event “Semana Raizal” in the theatre Jorge Eliécer Gaitán, in Bogotá, among others.
