Estimados Padres de Familia de Escuela Media,
En octubre del 2009, junto con la maestra Abby Thompson, el profesor TJ Whipple y el
profesor Brian Zink visitamos la escuela Catherine Cook (CCS) en Chicago, Illinois
(http://www.catherinecookschool.org/). Esta escuela implementó el programa uno a uno
en laptops, aproximadamente hace cuatro años. El propósito de nuestra visita el año
pasado, fue el de ver cómo era la vida, día a día, en una “escuela uno a uno“ antes de
comenzar nuestra propia implementación uno a uno. La visita nos proporcionó una gran
cantidad de información in situ lo que nos ayudó a implementar nuestro programa de
laptop uno a uno de una manera mucho más fácil. La visita también nos puso en contacto
con una gran escuela en una fantástica y excitante ciudad. Durante la visita, tuve la
oportunidad de discutir la posibilidad de desarrollar algún intercambio entre las dos
escuelas. Esperaba que eventualmente pudiéramos participar en un programa de
intercambio entre nuestras escuelas.
El mes pasado tuvimos una maravillosa visita de Cory Stutts, Director de Escuela Media
en CCS y Bill Mierisch, Director de Tecnología de CCS. Durante la visita de Cory y Bill
dimos un tour por el campus, observamos clases, nos reunimos con muchos de los
maestros de 7º y 8º grado, con Ms. Heinze, personal de tecnología, varios de los
administrativos y algunos padres de familia de Middle School. También tuvieron la
oportunidad de disfrutar un pequeño tour por Guadalajara. Disfrutaron mucho su visita y
fuimos tuvimos la oportunidad de platicar y comenzar a planear futuras colaboraciones
entre nuestras escuelas. Logramos un gran avance y estamos muy emocionados de
comenzar a implementar algunas de las ideas que platicamos.
En febrero del 2011, CSS ha convenido hospedar a 6 de nuestros alumnos de 8º grado por
2 semanas, como parte del programa de intercambio. Seis de nuestros alumnos vivirán
con familias de CCS y asistirán a la escuela en Chicago por dos semanas. Ésta es una
oportunidad de la cual, estoy seguro, se beneficiarán nuestros alumnos y a la comunidad
de CCS. Estoy seguro que ésta será una experiencia que nuestros participantes de ASFG
nunca olvidarán. ¡No puedo esperar a ver las fotos y los videos de nuestros alumnos
viviendo la experiencia en invierno en Chicago! Espero que a finales de este ciclo
escolar o quizá durante el próximo 2011/2012 podamos hospedar a alumnos de CCS aquí
en el ASFG.

Durante la primavera, también participaremos en un intercambio de profesores con CCS.
Ellos enviarán un maestro por dos semanas para enseñar en una de nuestras clases y
nosotros enviaremos a un maestro para que enseñe en sus clases por un periodo de dos
semanas. Creo que este intercambio beneficiará a los profesores involucrados,
brindándoles una experiencia en diferentes aspectos y los expondrá a una variedad de
estrategias de enseñanza.
También hemos comenzado a planear para nuestras dos escuelas, el trabajar juntas en un
proyecto patrocinado por la Asociación de Escuelas Independientes (National
Association of Independent Schools NAIS) durante el ciclo escolar 2011/2012, llamado

tn.ItemNumber=153260 ). Hemos seleccionado profesores en nuestra escuela que
trabajarán en sus clases con este proyecto, donde los alumnos realizarán investigaciones
sobre problemas globales y trabajarán juntos para desarrollar soluciones para estos
problemas. Estoy seguro que éste será un gran proyecto para nuestros alumnos de 8º
grado, para el próximo año.
Estoy muy emocionado sobre estos proyectos y sobre los beneficios potenciales que este
convenio de escuelas traerá a nuestras comunidades. Este tipo de actividades encajan
muy bien dentro de la visión de nuestra escuela de ser una institución líder en
educación y con nuestra misión en crear alumnos con propósitos determinados,
pensadores críticos y creativos, comunicadores efectivos, y contribuidores comunitarios.
Espero con mucho interés comenzar esta colaboración con la escuela Catherine Cook y
confío en que nuestras comunidades escolares aprendan mucho una de la otra.

Dear Middle School Parents,
In October of 2009 I, along with Ms. Abby Thompson, Mr. TJ Whipple, and Mr. Brian
Zink visited the Catherine Cook School (CCS) in Chicago, Illinois
(http://www.catherinecookschool.org/). This school implemented a one to one laptop
program approximately four years ago. The purpose of our visit last year was to see what
day to day life looked like in a one to one school before we began our one to one
implementation. The visit provided us with a great deal of information and insight which
helped us implement our one to one laptop program much more smoothly. The visit also
put us in contact with a great school in a fantastic, exciting city.
During the visit I had the opportunity to discuss the possibility of developing some school
to school partnerships between our two schools. I was very much hoping that we would
eventually be able to engage in a student exchange program between our schools.

Last month we had a wonderful visit by Cory Stutts, the Middle School Head of CCS and
Bill Mierisch, the CCS Director of Technology. During the visit Cory and Bill toured the
campus, observed classes, met with many 7th and 8th grade teachers, Ms. Heinze, the
technology department, several other administrators, and a few middle school parents.
They also had a chance to enjoy a brief tour of Guadalajara. They very much enjoyed
their visit and we were able to further discuss and begin planning for future partnerships
between our two schools. We made a great deal of progress and are excited to begin to
implement some of the ideas that we discussed.
In February of 2011 CCS has agreed to host six of our ASFG eighth grade students for a
two week exchange program. Six of our students will live with CCS families and attend
the school in Chicago for two weeks. This is an opportunity that I am sure will benefit
our students and the CCS Community. I am sure that this will be an experience that our
ASFG participants will never forget. I can’t wait that to see pictures and videos of our
students experiencing winter time in Chicago! I hope that later this year or perhaps during
the 2011/12 school year that we will be able to host CCS students here at ASFG.
Later in the spring, we will also participate in a teacher exchange with CCS. They will
send us a teacher for two weeks to teach in one of our classes and we will send them a
teacher to teach in their classes for a two week period. I believe that this exchange will
benefit the teachers involved by giving them experience in different settings and exposing
them to a variety of instructional strategies.
We have also begun planning for our two schools to work together on a project sponsored
by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) during the 2011/12 school
year called Challenge 20/20

tn.ItemNumber=153260 ). We have already selected teachers in our schools that will
work with their classes on this project where students conduct research on a global
problem and work together to develop solutions to these problems. I am sure that this will
be a great project for next year’s eighth grade students.
I am very excited about these projects and the potential benefits that this school to school
partnership will provide our communities. These types of activities fit very well into our
school’s vision of being a leading educational institution and with our mission in creating
students that are purposeful learners, critical and creative thinkers, effective
communicators, and community contributors. I very much look forward to beginning this
partnership with the Catherine Cook School and am confident that our school
communities will learn a great deal from each other.
