Let’s Dive Into Language Studies
a.k.a. Spelling and Vocabulary Development
“Let’s review root words from last week,” said Ms. Kiely.
“Sure,” the students shouted. “A root word is the base from which other words are
built. It is a word or word part that takes a new meaning when a prefix or suffix is added to
it.”
“Excellent! You remembered!” said Mrs. Smither. “Do you know the meaning of these
new root words: vid, mit, mem, vis, graph, miss?”
“Vid sounds like the word video, so maybe it means to see,” suggested a student.
“Exactly!” shouted Ms. Kiely. “You guys are super smart! Now let’s take a look at what
these other root words mean.”
