I am currently attending Claremont Graduate University and am pursuing a Masters
Degree in Education. I am required by my program to conduct an ethnographic study of five
students in my classroom. This letter is to inform you that your child has been selected to take
part in this study and to request your consent. All information gathered in this study will remain
confidential and the names of all people and places will be assigned pseudonyms in my writing.
The purpose of the study is to help me become a better teacher by learning about my
students, their families, culture, academic history and future aspirations. As part of this study, I
will collect samples of your son or daughter’s schoolwork and will conduct interviews with both
you and your child surrounding a variety of topics (future plans, favorite things to do, homework,
habits, etc…). I may also be sending a camera home with your child so that he/she can take
pictures of those people or things that hold special significance in his/her life.
I truly appreciate your support in helping me to become a better teacher. Please sign the
permission slip at the bottom of this letter and return to me as soon as possible. Also, please

Al presente estoy asistiendo a la Universidad de Claremont donde espero obtener mi Maestria en
Educación. El programa require que conduzca un estudio etnográfico de cinco estudiantes en mi
salon. Esta carta es para informarle que su hijo/hija ha sido seleccionado/a para participar en este
estudio. La información obtenida para el estudio se mantendra confidencial y se cambiaran todos
los nombres de personas y lugares mencionados.
El proposito del estudio es conocer a mis estudiantes, sus familias, cultura, historia
academica y futuras aspiraciones. Esta información me ayudara a mejorar como maestro/a. El
