The major purpose of this standards-aligned semester course is to explore ideas, issues, and themes
from contemporary fiction, nonfiction, and informational materials and to focus on writing coherent and
complex texts that convey well-defined perspectives and tightly reasoned arguments. Students will read, write,
speak, and think about the structure, style, content, and purpose of contemporary literature, expository, and
visual texts through different lenses and various perspectives to investigate personal, American, and global
views on current events, issues, and themes. As a means of developing the critical thinking and communication
skills necessary for the demands of college and work, students will engage in discussion to prepare oral and
written arguments that provide all relevant perspectives and consider the validity and reliability of sources.

LATE WORK
In the adult world, which students
will be entering soon, being late
with their work will not get them
very far. We’re going to practice
that skill in this class.
Late work deducted 30-50% credit.
PARENTS
Expect to see a report card four times a semester mailed to your home, summarizing your child’s progress.
Also, there will be a progress report inside your child’s notebook every 2 -3 weeks, listing all of the assignments
they have done and any their current grade for the class. This report needs to be signed and returned for the
next class period. This is the best way for you to know what they have accomplished, what they may need to
finish, and what grade your child currently has in the class.

above. If you should have any questions, concerns, or just want to know how your child is doing, call the school

Literatura Norteamericana

Literatura norteamericana es un curso de leer y escribir que incluye instrucción basada en las normas
estatales y enfocada en temas y géneros recurrentes en la literatura de los Estados Unidos desde el periodo
colonial hasta el presente y refleja la diversidad de la sociedad americana.
Los estudiantes van a leer y responder ha literatura significante que refleja y mejoran sus estudios de
historia y ciencia social. Igual analizarán los argumentos filosóficos presentados en la literatura y desarrollar las
habilidades de pensar y comunicar necesarias para las demandas de la universidad y el trabajo por medio de
tres composiciones academicas de por lo menos 1,500 palabras cada uno y sus presentaciones orales
correspondientes.

TRABAJO TARDE
En el mundo de los adultos, la cual los
estudiantes estarán entrando pronto,
llegar tarde con el trabajo no los
llevará muy lejos. Estaremos
practicando esa realidad en la clase.
Trabajos tardes deducirá el 30-50% del
crédito.
PADRES
Esperen un reporte por correo cuatro veces por semestre, resumiendo el progreso de su hijo/a. Un
reporte tambien será puesto adentro de la libreta de sus hijos cada 2-3 semanas con todos los trabajos que han
hecho y la calificasión que tendrán en ese momento. Este reporte tendrá que ser firmado por usted y regresado
para el día siguiente. De esta forma usted sabrá los trabajos que su hujo/a ha realizado igual los que necesita
terminar y la calificasión que tienen.
Favor de firmar esta carta abajo para que sepa que usted ha leído lo escrito. Si tiene preguntas o si quiere
