New Year Message…
Wishing everyone in our Goleta Valley
Jr. High community a Happy, Healthy,
and Safe New Year in 2015! We are
looking forward to an exciting second
semester at Goleta Valley Junior High
School. I have been spending time
speaking with staff, students, parents at
our school, and parents at elementary
schools in and outside of our area.
Each of the meetings I have attended reinforced
my belief that GVJH is the best place for students
to make the important transition from 6th grade to
high school. Our rigorous academic programs,
talented music and performing arts departments,
industrious technology programs, and athletes that
exhibit sportsmanship provide excellent
opportunities for our students. Check out our six
year plan, grades, and upcoming events on
gvjh.org. One of the reasons GVJH is such a great
place includes our incredible Staff, PTA, ELAC,
and Community Support. Our 6th Grade Open
House will be January 22nd at 6:00 pm. January
22nd is the end of 1st semester and will be a
minimum day.
Our teachers are diligently working to give each of
our students the tools to find success in the
classroom and on campus. Now that we will soon
begin 2nd Semester, several aspects of academic
and social discipline become paramount to every
student’s success. Character themes of Respect
and Responsibility have been a guiding Mariner
theme including Restorative Approaches. Our
House program is also is in full swing with the Sea
Monkey House in the lead this quarter earning the
most points and a BBQ. Community service is an
important part of our caring House Program. Nice
job students with the blanket coat drive to help
support the shelters and canned food drivecoming
up in the spring. A number of students will be
honored at our Award’s Ceremony after first
semester with a BBQ lunch. We will celebrate the
following awards:
• National Jr. Honor Society: on target 3.5
GPA and no N’s or U’s
• Mariner Award ‘caught you doing a good

Directora Veronica Rogers…
¡Deseándole a todos en nuestra comunidad
de Goleta Valley Jr. High un año Feliz,
Prospero, y Saludable este 2015! Esperamos
que nuestro segundo semestre en Goleta
Valley Junior High School sea emocionante.
Yo eh estado hablado con nuestros
empleados, estudiantes, y padres de las
primarias en y afuera de nuestro alrededor.
Cada junta que he asistido ha fortalezco mi
creencia que GVJHS es el mejor lugar para los estudiantes
que están haciendo la importante transición de la primaria
a la preparatoria. Nuestros programas académicos
rigorosos, departamentos talentosos de música y artes
escénicas, programa de tecnología industria, y atletas que
muestran espíritu deportivo ofrecen oportunidades
excelentes para nuestros estudiantes. Puede ver nuestro

gvjh.org. Una de las razones que GVJHS es una gran lugar
incluye nuestros increíbles empleados, PTA, ELAC, y el
Apoyo de la Comunidad. Nuestro Día de Puertas Abiertas
será el 22 de enero a las 6:00 pm. El 23 de enero es el final
del primer semestre y será día mínimo.
Nuestros maestros trabajan diligentemente para darles a
los estudiantes las herramientas que necesitan para
sobresalir en el salón y nuestro campus. Ahora que
empecemos el segundo semestre, varios aspectos
académicos y de disciplina social son muy importantes
para el éxito de cada estudiante. Temas de Carácter sobre
Respeto y Responsabilidad han sido temas que guían a los
Marineros e incluyen Enfoques Restaurativos. Nuestro
programa de Casas esta en pleno desarrollo con la Casa de
los Monos del Mar ganando con los mas puntos y
recibirán un almuerzo especial. Servicio comunitario es un
aspecto importante de nuestro Programa de Casas. Los
estudiantes hicieron un buen esfuerzo con la recolección
de cobijas y abrigos para apoyar los refugios. Tendremos
una recolección de comida enlatada en la primavera.
Muchos de nuestros estudiantes serán honrados en nuestra
Ceremonia de Premiación al final del primer semestre con
un almuerzo especial. Celebremos los premios siguientes:
• Sociedad de Honores Nacional Jr.: en objectivo
3.5 GPA y sin N’s o U’s
• Premio Marinero: para alumnos que han hecho
una buena acción
deed’.
• Teacher’s Choice: academic and/or social.
• Sportsmanship: do your best and try your
hardest.
• VIP (Very Improved Performer )
Our teachers are doing an excellent job of
preparing and reminding students of these
responsible habits, however, our teachers need
your help. You have the tough job of helping your
son or daughter maintain a successful path
throughout his or her remaining years of school.
This includes academic and social concerns – and
as the spring approaches, these concerns usually
take on a more intense focus.

Nuestros maestros están haciendo un excelente esfuerzo
enseñándoles y recordándoles estos hábitos responsables a
los estudiantes, pero, nuestros maestros necesitan su
ayuda. Usted tiene el difícil trabajo de ayudarle a su hijo o
hija mantener un camino exitoso durante los años de la
escuela que le quedan. Esto incluye preocupaciones
académicas y sociales ̶ al llegar la primavera estas
preocupaciones usualmente toman un enfoque mas
intenso.
With this stage of the school year in mind, I am
encouraging parents and students – reminding each
person of the importance of open communication
and a focused effort to find success at home and at
school. We have a multitude of interventions at
GVJH please take advantage of them from:
Homework Centers, 7th period Tutorials and
Support classes; Library open before school,
during lunch, and after school; Computer Lab;
EDU Grades, Weekly Progress Reports; and
Teachers, Counselors, Administrators who are
readily available.
Con esta etapa de la escuela en mente, yo estoy animando
a los padres y estudiantes ̶ recordándole a cada persona de
la importancia de la comunicación abierta y un esfuerzo
enfocado para encontrar éxito en casa y la escuela.
Tenemos multitudes de intervenciones en GVJHS por
favor aprovéchelos incluyen: Centros de Tarea, Tutorial y
Classes de apoyo durante el séptimo periodo, Laboratorios
de Tecnología, Calificaciones en EDU, Reportes de
Progreso Semanal; y Maestros, Consejeras,
Administradores que están fácilmente disponible.
Academically, now is the time to begin asking
focused questions about homework, benchmark
exams, midterms, and other major assignments for
the core academic classes. At the beginning of the
school year, final grades are a mere “blip” on the
radar screen. Now, they are taking on a far more
“real” connotation, and they will ultimately be the
largest determinant of courses that your son or
daughter will be able to take as a high school
freshman. Our PE Department works hard to
convey the message that developing good fitness
habits on a daily basis is critical for good health.
We also encourage walking and biking to school.
On a final note we at Goleta Valley Junior High
are here in a mutual partnership to make each
students experience a success. Check out our EDU

be downloaded. Check out our calendar,
resources, and daily bulletin on our website as
well.

Académicamente, ahora es el tiempo para empezar
haciendo preguntas enfocadas sobre la tarea, exámenes de
referencia, exámenes parciales, y otros proyectos para las
clases principales.
Al principio del año, las calificaciones finales quedan tan
lejos que son como un puntito el la pantalla de radar.
Ahora, tomaran una connotación mas “real,” y
definitivamente van a determinar los cursos que su hijo o
hija será elegible de tomar el primer año de la
preparatoria. Nuestro departamento de Educación Física
hace la esfuerza para enseñar que es importante
desarrollar buenos hábitos físicos para tener buena salud.
Animamos a los estudiantes que caminen o que usen su
bicicleta para llegar a la escuela.
Finalmente, nosotros en Goleta Valley Junior High
estamos aquí en colaboración con unos a otros para que
cada estudiante espírense éxito. Por favor vaya a la pagina

A critical safety reminder! The speed limit in
front of the school is 15 mph and the deputies
are diligently monitoring. Also in the parking
lot we ask all parents to not use their cell
phones and leave the middle aisle a ‘no stopping
zone’. It takes a village to raise a child. Thank
you for your support.
¡Un recordatorio crucial sobre seguridad! El limite de
velocidad enfrente de la escuela es 15 millas por hora
los oficiales diligentemente vigilan. En el
estacionamiento le pedimos a los padres que no usen
sus celulares y dejen el pasillo del medio como ‘zona de
no estacionar.’ Se necesita un pueblo para crear un niño.
