REFLECTION
WITNESSING HOPE
Our readings today underscore the importance of listening to
God’s word proclaimed to us at our liturgical celebrations. The
first reading from Nehemiah describes the situation of the Chosen People after their return from exile. They are hearing God’s
word proclaimed publicly for perhaps the first time in their lives.
And the Gospel shows Jesus in the synagogue, interpreting God’s
word for the people gathered there. As we enter into our
celebration today, let us be particularly attentive to the voice of
God in the proclamation of our readings.

The Diocese of Sacramento is sponsoring a free workshop
on Monday Feb 4, from 6:30—8:30 pm about giving hope to
those at risk for abortion. Individuals involved in pro-life ministries or know someone considering abortion is invited to
attend this workshop. The event will be held at the Pastoral
center & three remote locations at Holy Spirit Parish, Fairfield, Our Divine Savior Parish, Chico & Our Lady of Mercy,
Redding.

Do you want to get married in the Church? If you're
engaged and intending to receive the Sacrament of
Matrimony, please contact your parish 9 to 6 months from
your intended wedding date. St. Joseph Church offers Marriage Preparation classes twice a year. Sessions for this season are beginning Feb 10 from 6pm to ~ 7:30pm and run for
a total of five sessions. Some requirements are needed before you can attend the sessions. For more information,

BRICK BEAUTIFICATION PROJECT
This project is complete!! We would like to thank everyone
who supported this project by purchasing a brick, volunteering their time and providing donations. Following the noon
Mass today, Father Matthew will bless the bricks. We hope
you can make it!
KAIROS PRISON MINISTRY
Kairos Prison Ministry is an interdenominational Christian
ministry created to bring inmates Christ's unconditional
love. The first “Kairos,” was presented in
1979. Currently volunteers serve in over 400 institutions in 32 states.
With two prisons in Vacaville, Kairos ministry will be
great opportunity to witness to Our Lord and a
source of blessing for your family and our Parish.

held in the GYM (PCMR 3) at 7.00 pm on February
20th.
Kairos has been present at CMF Vacaville for over 20 years
and has touched the lives of thousands of men. A number of
St Joseph parishioners have been instrumental in its formation and development in our community. Please Plan to attend this meeting so that the parish might continue its’ support of an important work of the Lord.

VISIT OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA
The International Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima will
be at St. Joseph Catholic Church on February 4 – 5, 2013. In 1947,
Jose Thedim carved the statue under the direction of Sister Lucia,
one of the three Fatima seers. Pope Pius XII blessed the statue
and sent it forth to be a pilgrim to all the people of the world and
bring the message of Fatima, Our Lady’s peace plan from Heaven.
It has been traveling around the world since 1947. Physical cures
attributed to the presence of the statue have been documented
many times. The changes in the statue’s expression, color, and
pose have been reported innumerable times. The most important
miracles are the spiritual cures and gifts bestowed by our Lord
JESUS through the intercessions of Our Lady. Masses are scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on February 4, 2013 and 7:00 a.m. on February 5,

WORLD MARRIAGE DAY
Renewal Of Vows. On Saturday, February 16th, 2013, Bishop
Jaime Soto will preside at a special 11:00 am Mass at the
Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in which married couples may renew their wedding vows. An informal reception
for couples and their families will follow. Special certificates
will be given to couples celebrating milestone anniversaries

REFLECCIÓN DOMINICAL
Nuestras lecturas de hoy subrayan la importancia de escuchar la Palabra de Dios, que se nos proclama en nuestras
celebraciones litúrgicas. La primera lectura de Nehemías describe la situación del pueblo escogido al regreso de su exilio. Escuchaban la palabra de Dios proclamada públicamente
tal vez por primera vez en su vida. Y el Evangelio nos muestra a Jesús en la sinagoga interpretando la palabra de Dios al
pueblo allí reunido. Al comenzar nuestra celebración de hoy
pongamos particular atención a la voz de Dios en la proclamación de nuestras lecturas.
CONSEJO DEL OBISPO SOBRE LA
TEMPORADA DE LA GRIPE
Nuestra tradición de oración invoca el contacto cercano entre
unos y otros. Por medio de nuestra convocación, cantando, orando, compartiendo las bancas, intercambiando la paz y recibiendo la
comunión respondemos a la llamada de Dios para alabar como
miembros del cuerpo de Cristo y ser alimentados con la palabra y la
Eucaristía. Sin embargo, si está preocupado por poder estar enfermo, es un signo de caridad para sus hermanos impedir que la enfermedad se extienda a otros. Para ayudarnos a proteger y cuidar
a nuestros hermanos, el Obispo nos pide: rezar el Padrenuestro
con nuestras manos juntas en lugar de tomarse de las manos con
otros; intercambiar la paz de una manera sin tocar al otro
(¡acuérdate de sonreír!); recibir la Comunión en la forma de pan
solamente (hasta que el tiempo de la gripe ha terminado). Está
enfermo? Deber de: elegir permanecer en casa hasta que esté seguro que no es contagioso; llamar a su parroquia para encontrar
maneras de mantenerse conectado con la comunidad; aprovechar
una misa televisada para continuar alimentándose por la Palabra
de Dios y recibir una comunión espiritual. (KSPX – Canal 29 en Sacramento – a las 9:30 a.m. cada Domingo)
FLU SEASON ADVICE FROM THE BISHOP
Our tradition of prayer involves close contact with each other.
By gathering together, singing, praying, sharing a pew, exchanging the sign of peace and receiving communion we respond to God’s call to worship as members of Christ’s body and
to be nourished by Word and Sacrament. However, if you are
concerned that you might be ill, it is a sign of charity for your
brothers and sisters to keep that illness from spreading to others. To help us to protect and care for our brothers and sisters, Bishop Soto is asking us to: pray the Lord’s Prayer with
our hands joined instead of holding hands; exchange a sign of
peace that does not involve touching others (it helps to smile!);
receive Holy Communion in the form of bread only (until flu
season has passed). Are you ill? You should: choose to remain
at home until you are sure you are no longer contagious; contact your parish about ways to remain connected to the community. Also, take advantage of a televised Mass to continue
being nourished by the Word and making a spiritual communion. (KSPX – Channel 29 in Sacramento –at 9:30 am every Sunday)
