C1001AA0 Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires Tel.: (011) 4310-6110/6114 Fax: (011) 4310-6107 – At the headquarters of the labour portfolio Argentina and France signed social security agreement The Nation’s Minister of Labour, Carlos Tomada; and the French Ambassador, Jean Pierre Asvazadourian; signed an administrative agreement to apply the Social Security convention between France and Argentina at the headquarters of the labour portfolio. The purpose of this agreement is to regulate the convention which guarantees the effective right of access to social security for migrant workers of signatory countries. Both officials stressed the commitment of carrying out joint actions in order to guarantee the right to social security. Thus, the purpose is to reach equality of treatment for people of several nationalities while at the same time enabling the reciprocal record of all the services workers had rendered in both countries. On 22 September 2008, a convention between the Republic of Argentina and the Republic of France was signed. It was ratified by the National Congress in June 2012 by means of the Act No. 26752 which came into force on 1 November in the same year. Beneficiaries are mostly those workers whose contributions over their employment history were made in several countries, whether in a contract of employment or as self-employed. Temporarily transferred workers are also included. These benefits include their families or rightful claimants as well. Argentina has signed social security conventions with the following countries: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Chile, Peru, Greece, Slovenia, Colombia, the Mercosur [Common Market of the South], Belgium (pending approval in the Congress) and Luxembourg (pending approval in the Congress).
