Luis Ibarra's first involvement with contemporary art started in 2001 with the Experimenter / Remix project, curated by Los Angeles based artist Amy Blount Lay. This independent project included a sound art exhibition supported by workshops, film screenings and live performances. He participated as producer and exhibition coordinator until the end of the project in 2004. In 2007 Luis worked for MARTE’s Intervenciones Program working with curators Mariangela Cappuzzo, Janet Phelps and Rossina Cazali and assisting international artists Stephen Vitiello, Jason Middlebrook and Bert Rodriguez. During 2008 when MARTE Contemporáneo was founded, Luis participated as executive coordinator in exhibitions inside the museum, such as The Suz in da’ House and out of the museum space such as with The Art of Uncertainty, and was also a member of the sponsorship committee for the fundraising event "Hocus Pocus”. In 2009 Luis was invited to ZONA MACO (Mexico) with the installation “The Art of Diggin’” inside the VH1 booth. Later in 2010 he co-‐founded with artist Simón Vega resident_es, an artists residency program in San Salvador, where foreign and local artists produce art, and offer workshops or open discussion groups, as an opportunity for the public to have a closer look into the guest artist’s practice through studio visits and open house events. Luis has also collaborated throughout the years with local and international artists such as Simón Vega, Blake Rayne, Karl Haendel, Kalup Lindzy, Soo Kim and Naama Tsabar among others, helping them to develop their independent initiatives or specific projects for institutions.
