1. Read the brief descriptions about the following famous people, and underline the verbs in the past.
“Famous People”
Isadora Duncan:
She was born in San Francisco, California, in 1878 and died in Niza, 1927. She was an important
American dancer and the pionner of Modern dance. She published her memories just before dying.
Albert Einstein:
This well-know German scientist was born in Ulm, in 1879 and died in Princeton, New Jersey, in
1955. He formulated the theory or relativity and in 1921 won the Nobel Prize. His studies helped with
he development of nuclear physics.
Sofia Loren:
Her true name is Sofia Scicolone. This Italian actress was born in Rome, in 1934. She was very
famous in the 50s and 60s. She was the main character in the important film Two women (La Ciocara,
1960) She still acts on films in the USA.
Frida Kahlo:
This Mexican artist was bron in Mexico City in 1907, but she changed her date of birth to 1910, the
Mexican Revolution. She won the National Painting Prize in Mexico. Her most famous painting was a
self-portrait: The Two Fridas. She died in 1954.
Pablo Picasso:
The true name of this Spanish painter was Pablo Ruiz. He was born in Málaga, in 1881 and died in
Provenza, in 1973. His father was painter too, and taught him how to paint. Although he lived in
France, his most famous painting was The Guernica, an important picture that shows the destruction of
this Spanish city during World War Two.
