REGION OF NORTH AMERICA
• In the first quarter of 2015, the value of total trade
in the NAFTA region was USD$253.6 billion
representing a decrease of 4.1% compared to last
year. The third consecutive month with a decline in
trade.
• Within the North American block, Mexico's trade, along
with its partner countries, went from 30.7% of the
region's total back in January-March 1993 to 48.8% in
the same period in 2015, reflecting the importance of
Mexico as a trading partner for Canada and the United
States.

• En el periodo enero-marzo de 2015 el valor del
comercio total de la región TLCAN fue de
US$253,595 millones de dólares estadounidenses
(mdd), lo que representó un decremento del 4.1%
comparado con el año anterior, ligando el tercer mes
consecutivo con una caída del comercio.
• Dentro del bloque de Norteamérica, el comercio de
México con sus países socios pasó del 30.7% del total
de la región en enero-marzo de 1993 al 48.8% en el
mismo periodo de 2015, lo que refleja la importancia
de México como socio comercial de Canadá y EE.UU..

billion in the same period of 2015.

• On
a provincial-level, Mexican exports to Ontario
recorded 78.9% of the total followed by Quebec with
6.1%.
The largest increases corresponded to
Manitoba with 7.7% and British Columbia 5.2%.
Meanwhile, sales fell 29% in Alberta and 0.2% in
Quebec.
• Mexico kept its position as the
3rd
largest supplier for
the Canadian market (5.5%), after purchases from
Canada to United States and China.
• Exports
of Mexican products to Canada totalled
USD$6 billion in the first three months of 2015,
representing an increase of 0.2% with respect to last
year. Such amount is almost 10 times the trade
value registered in 1993 (USD$613 million). The
average rate of annual growth of exports from Mexico
into Canada in the NAFTA era is 11%.

• From January 2000 to March 2015, Canada’s
cumulative FDI in Mexico reached USD$23.2 billion,
becoming the fourth largest foreign investor in Mexico
after USA, Netherlands and Spain.

• During the last sixteen years, Canadian foreign direct
investment (FDI) has been a key factor for the
integration of our productive sectors.
• These results demonstrate the high confidence that
the NAFTA’s legal framework has granted to
Canadian investors to operate in Mexico.
• Durante los últimos dieciséis años la inversión
extranjera directa (IED) de Canadá ha sido un
elemento clave para la integración de los sectores
productivos de ambos países.
• En el período de enero 2000 – marzo 2015, la IED
acumulada de Canadá en México alcanzó los
US$23,226 mdd, lo que lo ubicó como el cuarto país
inversionista en México después de EE.UU., Países
Bajos y España.
