REGION OF NORTH AMERICA
• In 2014, the value of total trade in the NAFTA Region
was USD$1.122 trillion representing an increase of
4.3% compared to last year..
• Within the North American block, Mexico's trade, along
with its partner countries, went from 30.9% of the
region's total back in 1993 to 46.8% in 2014, reflecting
the importance of Mexico as a trading partner for
Canada and the United States.

• En 2014 el valor del comercio total de la región TLCAN
fue de US$1,122,923 mdd (millones de dólares
estadounidenses), lo que representó un aumento del
4.3% comparado con el año anterior.
• Dentro del bloque de Norteamérica, el comercio de
México con sus países socios pasó del 30.9% del total
de la región en 1993 al 46.8% en 2014, lo que refleja
la importancia de México como socio comercial de

trade surplus decreased 0.7%, going from
USD$16.1 billion in 2013 to USD$15.9 billion in 2014.

• On
a provincial-level, Mexican exports to Ontario
reached 77.1% of the total followed by exports to
Quebec with 7.5%. The largest increases were 12.2%
to Saskatchewan and 13.4% to Manitoba. In contrast,
sales fell 7.5% in Quebec and 19.5% in Alberta.
• Mexico continued to keep its position as the 3rd largest
supplier for the Canadian market (5.6%), after
purchases from Canada to United States and China.
• Exports
of Mexican products to Canada totalled
USD$26 billion, amount almost 10 times the trade
value registered in 1993 (USD$2.9 billion). The
average rate of annual growth of exports from Mexico
into Canada in the NAFTA era is 11.1%.

• From January 2000 to September 2014, Canada’s
cumulative FDI in Mexico reached USD$21.5 billion,
becoming the fourth largest foreign investor in Mexico
after USA, Netherlands and Spain.

• During the last fourteen years, Canadian foreign
direct investment (FDI) has been a key factor for the
integration of our productive sectors.
• These results demonstrate the high confidence that
the NAFTA’s legal framework has granted to
Canadian investors to operate in Mexico.
• Durante los últimos catorce años la inversión
extranjera directa (IED) de Canadá ha sido un
elemento clave para la integración de los sectores
productivos de ambos países.
• En el período de enero 2000 – septiembre 2014, la
IED acumulada de Canadá en México alcanzó los
US$21,493 mdd, lo que lo ubicó como el cuarto país
inversionista en México después de EE.UU., Países
Bajos y España.
