Mercantile Companies Statistics (MC)
July 2016. Provisional data
8,205 mercantile companies were created in July, 1.7% more than in
the same month of 2015, and 1,340 were dissolved, 6.6% less than
in July 2015
The Autonomous Communities with the greatest business
dynamism 1 are La Rioja (85.7%), Aragón and Cantabria (both with
33.9%)
8,205 mercantile companies were created in July, that is, 1.7% more than in the same month
of 2015. The capital subscribed for their constitution exceeded 430 million euros,
representing a decrease of 14.9%. The average capital subscribed (52,411 euros) decreased
16.3% in its annual rate.
On the other hand, 2,227 mercantile companies increased their capital in July, 11.3% less
than in the same month of 2015. The capital subscribed in the increases registered a
decrease of 42.3% and exceeded 1,809 million euros. The average capital subscribed in
these transactions (812,708 euros) decreased 34.9% in its annual rate.
The number of companies dissolved in July was 1,340, that is, 6.6% less than in the same
month of 2015. Among these, 69.6% did so voluntarily, 9.6% due to mergers and the
remaining 20.8% for other reasons.

Performance of the monthly rate
In order to contribute to the analysis and interpretation of the data, the following chart shows
the variation in the number of mercantile companies created and dissolved between June
and July in the last five years. In 2016, the monthly variation of the number of companies
created was -11.8% and that of the companies dissolved was -8.7%.

Results by main economic activity
23.8% of the mercantile companies created in the month of July corresponded to Trade and
15.6% to Construction. Regarding the dissolved companies, 20.2% corresponded to
Construction and 20.1% to Trade.

The activity with the greatest net balance of mercantile companies created in July 2016 was
Trade, with 1,686 new companies.
On the contrary, Agriculture and fishing registered the lowest net balance, with 190
companies created.

The economic activity with the greatest capital subscribed of the mercantile companies
created was Real estate, financial and insurance activities, with 126.81 million euros.
In turn, Administrative and support service activities presented the lowest capital subscribed,
with 3.01 million euros.

Results by Autonomous Communities
The Autonomous Communities with the greatest number of mercantile companies created in
July were Cataluña (2,097), Comunidad de Madrid (1,440), and Andalucía (1,388).
Conversely, the Autonomous Communities where less mercantile companies were created
were Comunidad Foral de Navarra (43), La Rioja (65) and Cantabria (79).
Regarding the dissolved mercantile companies, the Autonomous Communities that
presented the highest number of dissolutions were Comunidad de Madrid (327), Andalucía
(239) and Cataluña (149).
In turn, those with the lowest number of dissolutions were Comunidad Foral de Navarra (5),
Cantabria (11) and La Rioja (13).

In terms of annual variation of the number of mercantile companies created, La Rioja
(85.7%), Aragón and Cantabria (both with 33.9%) recorded the highest rates.
In turn, País Vasco (–19.0%), Comunidad de Madrid (–18.6%) and Región de Murcia
(18.1%) registered the greatest decreases.
Regarding the mercantile companies dissolved, Andalucía (40.6%), Illes Balears (38.3%),
La Rioja and Región de Murcia (both with 18.2%) were the Autonomous Communities that
registered the highest positive rates.
In turn, the Autonomous Communities registering the lowest annual rates were Comunidad
Foral de Navarra (–50.0%), Extremadura (–36.0%) and Aragón (–33.3%).
