Simbolismo y tradición. El nuevo edificio para el museo de la industria moderna diseñado
por Daniel Libeskind resume los tres momentos que componen la narración de la
modernización de la industria en la republica China, comprometiendo cada uno de los
tres pisos del museo a los aspectos emergentes del relato.
El primer nivel del edificio está dedicado a modernización iniciada por Zhang Zhidong,
líder del gobierno chino en el siglo 19 y promotor de la industrialización. El segundo nivel
está dedicado al desarrollo de la industria moderna China y el tercero a la ciudad de
Wuhan, donde se sitúa el museo, ciudad estratégica ubicada en el centro del país y
vinculada por el ferrocarril al resto de las provincias de China.

El edificio se instituye sobre el terreno fundando una imagen consistente y provocadora.
La semiesfera que compone el organismo central reposa sobre dos cuerpos verticales que
contienen las circulaciones verticales. La curvatura inferior favorece la relación del edificio
con el jardín y su entorno inmediato.
En todos los pisos se crean circulaciones lineales y radiales que conectan el pasado y el
futuro, escoltadas por una secuencia de vanos que enmarcan vistas hacia el jardín. El
diseño del recorrido interno permite al visitante acceder sucesivamente a todas las salas
del museo hasta llegar al punto más alto, donde una terraza cubierta enseña amplias
vistas a la ciudad.

MODERN INDUSTRY MUSEUM

Symbolism and tradition. The new building for the museum of modern industry designed by
Daniel Libeskind summarizes the three stages that make up the narrative of modernization
of industry in the Republic China, committing each of the three floors of the museum to
emerging aspects of the story.
The first level of the building is dedicated to modernization initiated by Zhang Zhidong,
leader of the Chinese government in the 19th century and promoter of industrialization. The
second level is dedicated to the development of China’s modern industry and the third to the
city of Wuhan, where the museum is located, strategic city located in the center of the
country and linked by rail to the rest of the provinces of China.
The building is established on the ground by founding a forceful and provocative image. The
hemisphere that makes up the central body based on two vertical bodies that contain the
vertical circulation. The lower curve favors the relationship of the building with the garden
and its immediate surroundings.
In all floors create linear and radial circulation connecting the past and the future, escorted
by a sequence of windows that frame views of the garden. The internal circuit design allows
visitors to access all the museum galleries up to the highest point, where a covered terrace
teaches sweeping views of the city.
