DEFLECTION READING
HULL NO: J370R
1.
SHEET: 1 OF 1
PURPOSE OF TEST
1.1 The purpose of taking deflection readings is to measure how much a structure or component bends or
shifts when a load is applied.
2.
TEST PROCEDURE
2.1 Set up deflection test equipment at the front, middle, and back of the vessel. Each one has a small hole on
top for light to pass through.
2.2 Shine a light from the front. If it passes through the middle and back holes, the equipment is in a straight
line.
2.3 Take measurements at different stages of the vessel's movement including when it's on land and when it's
in the water to monitor any changes in position or shape, especially at the middle point.
2.4 Write down all the readings and compare them to see if the vessel's shape or position has changed.
