Biography David Bennett is Professor of neurology and neurobiology at the University of Oxford and consultant neurologist at Oxford University Hospitals in the UK. He undertook his medical training at the Guy’s and St Thomas’ medical school London and then completed specialist training in neurology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery and King’s College Hospital London. He is also a senior Wellcome clinical scientist. He has a longstanding interest in the role of trophic factors in mediating plasticity of the sensory nervous system. His current focus is to understand the pathogenesis of neuropathic pain and to develop novel therapeutics. He takes a translational approach ranging from cell based models to human psychophysics and studying clinical cohorts. He administers a specialist neuropathic pain clinic based at Oxford University hospitals and receives national referrals for painful channelopathies. He is a member of the London Pain Consortium and is vice-director of the ‘Europain’ Investigational Medicines Initiative.
