Dear Parents/Guardians of John Campbell Primary Students

Dear Parents/Guardians of John Campbell Primary Students ­ Student safety is the first priority of our school district. Because the well­being of our students is so important, a few weeks back the district decided to do voluntary lead testing to water sources at John Campbell Primary. We did this to be proactive due to the increased attention being brought to this issue throughout the country. The test was done on fixtures in classrooms, hallways and bathrooms. We received the results yesterday, June 2nd, and found some fixtures to have elevated lead levels above the Environmental Protecti​
on Agency’s "actionable range.” Once we learned this news, we immediately made the decision to shut down the fixtures with elevated levels of lead so they can be replaced over the summer. We will continue to do more testing over the summer and will spare no expense to ensure that this is resolved. Finally, we have provided bottled water for students impacted by these shutdowns to ensure proper hydration with the warm temperatures we are expecting. Please know that we ​
have taken immediate action to ensure that students are safe, and ​
are doing everything we can to fix this issue, including consulting with the Yakima County Department of Health. Debido a que el bienestar de nuestros estudiantes es tan importante, hace unas semanas, el distrito decidió hacer voluntariamente pruebas de plomo a las fuentes de agua en la primaria John Campbell. En cuanto nos pusieron al consciente de esta noticia, inmediatamente hicimos la decisión de cerrar las instalaciones con niveles elevados de plomo para que puedan ser reemplazados durante el verano. Vamos a seguir haciendo más pruebas durante el verano y vamos a escatimar gastos para asegurar que esto se resuelva. Por último, hemos proporcionado agua embotellada para los estudiantes afectados por estos cierres para asegurar hidratación adecuada con las temperaturas cálidas que estamos esperando.
