“There is nothing quite like the first day of school. It is so
wonderful to see all of you back here for another great
year at Ouchi-O'Donovan High School. As I reflect on the
5 years that I have been Principal, I can't help but think,
what a charmed life I have to be leading a school community
like Ouchi. The faculty and staff, parents, and these wonderful
students. Thank you to all who helped make our school great.
With a very successful opening to the school year behind us,
I am so happy welcome all of you to a very special school year
at Ouchi-O’Donovan High School. I look forward to an
awesome year of continuing to work as a team.

This year Alliance Ouchi-O’Donovan 6-12 Complex will implement PBIS, which is a collaborative
process for assessment and development of effective intervention support strategies. The new system will emphasize the use of researched prevention and teach reinforcement-based strategies to
achieve meaningful outcomes for both student behavior and academics.
We believe that through the implementation of PBIS systems and strategies we will increase student
academic performance, increase safety, decrease problem behavior and establish a positive school
climate.
Ouchi will be incorporation the Hero Program, which is a tool used to assist with monitoring students positive behaviors. The goal is to reward students who display outstanding behavior with
incentives such as, praise, movie tickets, free dance tickets, gift cards, etc.
Farewell Mr. Garcia
After 3 years of serving as our Parent Engagements Specialist for the Ouchi community we saw
goodbye to Mr. Garcia. We will definitely miss him. He begins his new job at Cal State LA working
with the recruitment team. Mr. Garcia was an asset to our entire school community and we wish
him the best of luck in his new position.

"No hay nada como el primer día de clases. Es tan
maravilloso ver a todos ustedes de nuevo aquí para otro gran
año en Ouchi-O'Donovan High School. Al reflexionar sobre los
5 años que he sido directora, no puedo evitar en pensar, lo
encantada que estoy por dirigir una comunidad escolar como
Ouchi. La facultad y el personal, los padres, y estas los
maravilloso estudiantes. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron a
hacer nuestra escuela grande. Con una apertura muy exitosa
para el año escolar detrás de nosotros. Estoy muy feliz y les
doy la bienvenida a todos ustedes a un año escolar muy
especial en Ouchi-O'Donovan High School. Estoy emocionada

Intervencion de apoyo para el
Comportamiento Positivo (SWPBIS)
Este año Alliance Ouchi-O'Donovan 6-12 Complejo implementará PBIS, que es un proceso de colaboración para la evaluación y el desarrollo de estrategias eficaces de apoyo a la intervención. El nuevo
sistema se hará hincapié en el uso de la prevención investigado y enseñar estrategias basadas en el
refuerzo para lograr resultados significativos tanto para el comportamiento y académicos de los
estudiantes.
Creemos que a través de la “implementación de sistemas y estrategias de PBIS” vamos a aumentar
el rendimiento académico de los estudiantes, aumentar la seguridad, reducir los problemas de comportamiento y establecer un clima escolar positivo.
Ouchi implementara el Programa de heroe, que es una herramienta que se utiliza para ayudar
en el seguimiento de los estudiantes conductas positivas. El objetivo es premiar a los estudiantes que muestran un comportamiento excepcional con incentivos tales como pasajes de cine,
entradas gratis de bailes escolares, tarjetas de regalo, etc.
Adios Sr. García
Después de 3 años de servir como nuestro Especialista de padres para la comunidad de Ouchile
damos un adiós al Sr. García. No cabe duda que lo vamos extrañar. Él comienza su nuevo trabajo en
Cal State LA trabajar con el equipo de reclutamiento. El Sr. García era un persona que contribuia
bastante a nuestra comunidad escolar y le deseamos la mejor de la suertes en su nueva posición.

We have partnered up once again
with Los Trade Tech College (LATTC)
to offer ESL Classes for the Fall
Semester. We ask that all parents
interested in these classes attend the
orientation on August 31st. Parents
will also have the opportunity on
registering for the class on the first
session. Classes begin September 7–
December 14, every Wednesday
from 9:00am– 12:00pm. If you have
any questions please contact Mr.
Tovar.
After-School All-Stars
The priority of After-School All-Stars, Los Angeles is to provide an array of services that offer
significant expanded learning opportunities that contribute to reducing drug use and violence,
while increasing the safety of students in the after-school hours. The program also instills in its
participants a sense of belonging and responsibility, helping students become leaders and critical
stakeholders of their schools and communities.

Safety
Due to recent robberies in the area we ask that students take additional precautions outside of
school grounds. To ensure maximum safety for students who are walking to and from campus, all
valuables such as cell phones and electronic devices should be kept hidden, away from public
view. If possible, students should also walk in groups or pairs and be alert at all times. We would
like to reassure parents and guardians that our school will take every precaution to ensure the
safety of students and staff at our school. Ouchi also contracts services with the Metropolitan
Office of Public Safety (MOPS), which patrols the area surrounding school from 7am to 7:45 am in
the morning and from 3:30pm to 6:00pm in the afternoon. (Staff members also help supervise
during the morning and afternoon every day.) We will continue to follow up with law enforcement to maintain patrols in the neighborhood.
Bright Start Workshops
This workshop series focuses on
techniques to build strong communication and positive development in
children. The program has a strong
focus on literacy and research-based
assets considered to be essential for
success. All participants receive
books and materials and have a
chance at winning a tablet computer.
New Parent Engagement Specialist
We are excited to introduce Mr. Juan Tovar as our new parent
engagement specialist. After a year working in our clerical team
he has been promoted and will take over as our new Parent
Engagement Specialist. Mr. Tovar is already hard at work creating opportunities for parents and is offering new workshops
for parents to attend. We look forward to continuing our partnership with parents and increasing our parent engagement this
school year. Please stop by our office and meet with Mr. Tovar if
you have any questions about parent engagement.
Bright Start is limited to 30
participants, 15 from the High School
and 15 from the Middle School. We
hold two sessions—one in English
and one in Spanish—where we share
best practices and personal
experiences. Interested parents
should get in contact with Mr. Tovar
as the starting date approaches.

Parent Engagement
Ouchi High School is starting a new school year and this means new opportunities to get involved
in your student's education! At Ouchi, we highly value parent input and engagement. This year
we will be continuing our regular Parent Engagement Programming and have added some new
opportunities. We will be sending out information and promoting new programs and upcoming
parent events through flyers and teleparent phone calls to parent. Also, you can look at our
monthly calendar online. This year we are excited to bring back English Classes for parents, a well
as Bright Start Workshops. These are two very popular opportunities parents enjoy. If you are
interested, be sure to apply as soon as possible, as space is very limited. In addition, this year we
will be adding Saturday enrichment activities for families. The goal is to provide fun, educational
activities for families to attend on the weekend whether it is at our school site or off campus. For
example, we hope to include a college fair, health fair, and other exciting events. Overall, we
want to continue providing excellent opportunities to parents so that they may continue to grow
alongside their student and help them achieve the goal of college readiness and completion.

Participacion de Padres
Ouchi High School está comenzando un nuevo año escolar y esto significa nuevas oportunidades

los padres. Además, se puede ver en nuestro calendario mensual en nuestro sitio de web. Este año

Bright Start. Se trata de dos oportunidades muy populares que los padres disfrutan. Si le interesa,

Meet our Counselors
9th Grade
Elena Rodriguez
Ms. Rodriguez attended Loyola Marymount University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree
in Psychology and Education and a Master’s Degree in Counseling. She looks forward to continue
supporting her former O’Donovan students and is most excited about helping 9th graders begin
their high school career and prepare for college.
10th Grade
Ruby Gonzalez
Ms. Gonzalez attended CSU San Bernardino where she earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s
degrees. She looks forward to getting to know everyone and working with the awesome counseling team and helping students set and reach their goals.
11th Grade
Makou Aboli
Ms. Aboli attended CSU Long Beach where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Dance and her
Master’s Degree in School Counseling. She looks forward to meeting with all juniors and creating
a plan for their next 2 years.
12th Grade
Jonatan Miranda
Mr. Miranda attended UC Santa Cruz where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and
Latin American & Latino Studies. He also earned his Master’s Degree in Education and
Counseling. He looks forward to being apart of students’ journey from now until graduation, and post graduation.

Opportunities for Students:
6th Annual Adelante Young Men’s Conference
Parents and students are encouraged and welcome to attend the Adelante Conference for young
men on November 12, 2016. The conference will focus on college, career, and financial topics.
Participants will hear from prominent Latino speakers, learn about college and financial aid, get
career and internship information, and meet Latino professionals, college recruiters, & more.
Young men 12-21 years of age, and parents/family members can attend. The conferences fee is
$25 and includes the price of the event, breakfast, lunch, and goodies. Students can sign-up in
the Counseling Center if they are interested – Note: The first 50 students to sign-up will have
guaranteed transportation to the event, which is located at Pasadena City College.

I am honored to have the privilege
of working with Lesly Ardon this
year in ASB. Since I started getting
involved with the organization,
Lesly has been extremely helpful
and pleasant to work with. She and
I have a wonderful advisor/
president relationship. What
makes Lesly so absolutely wonderful to work with is that she is kind,
respectful, intelligent, optimistic,
tenacious, full of spirit, funny,
spunky, awesome, the list goes on.
Lesly is a great leader who always
has the answers that we are looking for. Her peers feel super comfortable to approach her any time
they have a concern, which is an
excellent indicator of her warm
and kind demeanor. Lesly is an
excellent president now and I can't
wait to see how much she will
continue to develop. I know that
she is capable of accomplishing
anything she sets her mind to. I
have no doubt in my mind she is
going to be a person who will do

Makou Aboli

6ª Conferencia Anual de Jóvenes Adelante Hombres
Los padres y los estudiantes son animados y bienvenidos a asistir a la Conferencia Adelante para los
hombres jóvenes, el 12 de noviembre de 2016. La conferencia se enfocaran en la universidad, las
carreras y los temas financieros. Los participantes podrán escuchar a oradores prominentes latinos,
aprender acerca de la universidad y la ayuda financiera, obtener información de carrera y prácticas,
y conocer a profesionales latinos, reclutadores de la universidad, y más. Los hombres jóvenes entre
12-21 años de edad, y padres / miembros de la familia pueden asistir. La cuota de conferencias es
de $ 25 e incluye el precio del evento, el desayuno, el almuerzo y operativos. Los estudiantes pueden inscribirse en el Centro de Consejeria si están interesados - Nota: Los primeros 50 estudiantes
