MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
This meeting was called to order by Ms. Carolina Howard.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Minutes from the meeting in September were presented. Stephan de la Cruz motioned to approve the minutes and
Wendy Figueroa second it. Minutes were approved.
PUBLIC ADDRESS
John Otis parents voiced their concern on fund raising policies.
SCHOOL REPORTS
Leticia Hernandez and Beverly Hayes reported on their school’s current activities.
COMMUNICATIONS
Measure N: Dr. Chris Oram, District Superintendent, explained that the purpose of Measure N is to renovate and
upgrade classrooms and school facilities in the district. This bond would provide the district with $26.1 million for
school renovations. Mr. Chris Carson, Assistant Superintendent, explained that this bond would be paid by
National City property taxes. Homeowners would pay $30 for every $100,000 assessed value. Parents were
excited to know that the schools would get updated heating and air-conditioning if this bond passes.
District Achievement: Ms. Whitney explained that the district is required to monitor the growth of all student
achievement as a group and present the information once a year. She reviewed Renaissance STAR results for
language arts and math. Parents and principals reviewed and discussed the results.
Common Core: Parents reviewed the handout shared by Ms. Whitney. The handout listed strategies for success
with Common Core.
Preschool - Preschool participants discussed the information shared by Mr. Chris Carson regarding measure “N”
and how it would benefit all of the students in the school district. Participants were asked to share the information
obtained with other community members, and were provided with informational cards. Participants were engaged
in discussion around the quality of the preschool program and the services offered. A parent expressed excitement
regarding the growth her child is making in preschool, and how pleased she was to see her children growing and
expanding their vocabulary and skills.
GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Ms. Howard presented a prize to both Las Palmas and John Otis for having the most parents in attendance. School
announcements were shared. She then distributed prizes and thanked everyone for attending.

INICIO DE LA JUNTA
La Sra. Carolina Howard dio inicio a la junta.
APROBACIÓN DEL ACTA
Se presentó el acta de la junta de septiembre. Stephan de la Cruz hizo la moción para aprobarla y Wendy Figueroa lo
secundó. El acta fue aprobada.
COMENTARIOS DEL PÚBLICO
Padres de familia de la escuela John Otis exteriorizaron su preocupación por las reglas para las actividades de
recaudación de fondos.
REPORTES ESCOLARES
Leticia Hernández y Beverly Hayes reportaron las actividades actuales de sus escuelas.
COMUNICACIONES
Medida N: El Dr. Chris Oram, Superintendente del Distrito, explicó que el objetivo de la Medida N es renovar y
mejorar las aulas y las instalaciones de las escuelas del distrito. Este bono dará al distrito $26.1 millones para hacer
renovaciones en las escuelas. El Sr. Chris Carson, Asistente del Superintendente, dijo que el bono se pagaría con los
impuestos a la propiedad de National City. Los propietarios de casas pagarían $30 por cada $100,000 de valor
catastral. Los padres se alegraron de saber que si esta propuesta pasa, las escuelas tendrán instalaciones modernas
de calefacción y aire acondicionado.
Rendimiento del distrito – La Sra. Whitney manifestó que se requiere que el distrito supervise el rendimiento
académico del estudiantado como grupo y que dé a conocer la información una vez al año. También habló de los
resultados de la evaluación Renaissance STAR para las materias de Matemáticas y Lengua Inglesa. Los padres y los
directores comentaron los resultados.
Estándares Académicos Fundamentales de California (conocidos en inglés como Common Core): Los padres vieron el
folleto que repartió la Sra. Whitney, en el que se mencionan estrategias para tener éxito con los estándares.
Sistema preescolar - Las personas participantes en el grupo del sistema preescolar discutieron la información dada
por el Sr. Chris Carson acerca de la medida "N" y la forma en que podría beneficiar a todos los estudiantes en el
distrito escolar. A los presentes se les pidió propagar esta información con otros miembros de la comunidad y se les
dieron tarjetas informativas. En este grupo también se habló sobre la calidad del programa de educación preescolar y
los servicios que se ofrecen. Una madre expresó su emoción sobre el progreso que está haciendo su hijo en la
preescuela y la satisfacción de ver a sus hijos crecer y ampliar su vocabulario y sus conocimientos.
Anuncios
La Sra. Howard entregó un premio a las escuelas Las Palmas y John Otis por tener la mayoría de padres presentes en
esta junta; representantes de algunas escuelas hicieron anuncios; se hizo un sorteo de regalos; y por último, se
agradeció al público su asistencia.
