As in previous years, our parish provides you with a number of aids for your Lenten journey: an opportunity to join a small weekly Lenten Longings group to reflect with fellow parishioners on the Scriptures; a pocket-size booklet of daily reflections entitled “Not By Bread Alone”; weekly Stations of the Cross at 3 pm (English) and 7 pm (Espanol) on Fridays; a Communal Lenten Penance Service midway through the journey, and your own CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar to remind you to share with those less fortunate than yourself. Les rogamos que ofrezcan lo que puedan. Si todos contribuimos un poco lograremos mucho. 7 DE FEBRERO, 2016 Hoy en cada una de las lecturas bíblicas nos presenta una escena de Vocacion (llamado). En el comienzo del evangelio de Lucas que estamos leyendo, esta la llamada a los primeros discípulos y la respuesta de estos. Esto hace que la primera lectura recoja tambien una vocacion profetica en este caso, hoy, la de Isaias. La segunda lectura nos transmite la llamada que de parte de Dios han recibido los Corintios por boca de San Pablo. “Aquí estoy, mandame” Isaias explica su vocacion. Ha sido una vision majestuosa del Senor en el templo, rodeado por los serafines… Isaias ha contemplado a Dios, y, ha quedado sin palabras. Ante la santidad de Dios, ha sentido como nunca su impureza, y de esta solo Dios puede curarlo. ¡Y lo hace! Es entonces cuando puede “escuchar la voz de Dios” de verdad, no antes. Y por ello puede responder “Aquí estoy, mandame”. Ha nacido un profeta. “Dejandolo todo, lo siguieron” Tambien Simon Pedro se ha encontrado con que la experiencia del inefable se le ha hecho presente en su vida. “Nos hemos pasado toda la noche bregando y no pescamos nada”, dira explicando su vida hasta entonces de manera muy grafica. Pero esta dispuesto a hacer caso de la palabra que ha escuchado pues Jesus le ha dicho “remad mar adentro y hechad las redes para pescar”, sencillamente obedece y se encuentra con la maravilla de la accion de Dios que todo lo transforma. Una pesca extraordinaria… Pedro se siente indigno, como Isaias y todos los profetas, en contraste y en contacto con la santidad de Dios que se le ha hecho evidente en Jesus. No es extrana su reaccion: “Apartate de mi, Senor, que soy un pecador”. Y la respuesta de Jesus: en la que le da la mision: “No temas; desde ahora seras pescador de hombres”. Ha nacido un apostol, listo para acompanar y seguir a Jesus. Mis Hermanos, tratemos de ver en estas experiencias nuestro llamado. Cristo nos ha escogido para “algo”, esforcemonos en descubrirlo y responder con generosidad. Aprovechemos este Tiempo de Cuaresma. P. Alberto, C.P.
