READING from the Epistle of St. Paul to Titus
My son Titus, this saying is true, and in this matter I want to insist that tose who believe in
God be careful to excel in good works; these are good and useful to people. But avoid
foolish controversies and geneallgies and quarrels, and disputes about the Law, for they are
useless and futile. Avoid a factious man after warning him one or twice, knowing that such a
man is perverted and sins, since he is condemning himself.
When I send Artemas or Tychicus to you, make every effort to meet me at Nicopolis, for I
have decided to spend the winter there. Help Zenas the lawyer and Apolos on their way,
taking care that they lack nothing. And let our people also learn to excel in good works, in

The Lord said to his disciples, “You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain

The Ordination of a Priest
The ordination of a Priest takes place during the Divine Liturgy. The Liturgy is celebrated
in the usual manner. After the singing of the Holy God the Bishop blesses he people with
the two and tree branched candlesticks tree times singing:
Bishop: Lord, Lord, look down from heaven and see and bless this vineyard which your
right hand has planted.
All: Eis polla eti, Dhespota!
Clergy: Lord, have mercy (after each petition)
The actual ordination takes place after the Great Entrance. The person to be ordained is led
into the sanctuary and is presented to the Bishop. He is then led around the altar three times,
a sign that from now on his life will revolve around the altar of God. During this procession,
the choir sings the following troparia:
Deacon: For the peace from on high and for the salvation of our souls, let us pray to the
Lord.
Choir: O holy martyrs, who fought the good fight and have received your crowns, beseech
the Lord to save our souls.
Glory to You, O Christ God, the apostles' pride, the martyrs' joy who have proclaimed the
consubstantial Trinity!
Dance, O Isaiah! A virgin has conceived in her womb and has given birth to a Son,
Emmanuel, both God and man. His name is Orient: magnifying him we bless the virgin
The candidate kneels before the altar with his head touching the altar. The Bishop places the
end of his omophorion on the candidate’s head and recites the prayer of ordination
Deacon: let us be attentive!

Bishop: The Divine Grace, which always heals, that which is infirm, and compels that which
is lacking, elevates, through the laying-on of hands, SERGIO, the most devout Deacon to be
a Priest. Wherefore, let us pray for him, that the Grace of the All-Holy Spirit may come upon
him.
Bishop: O God, who are without beginning and without end, and who exist before all
creation, you honor with the name of priest those who are judged worthy to serve the word of
your truth. O Lord of all grant that he whom you have been pleased to promote though me,
may be preserved in blameless speech, and unswerving faith and that he may receive in
abundance the grace of your Spirit. Make him perfect in obeying you in all things, according
to your good pleasure, that he may prove himself worthy of the priestly office, to which in
Your divine wisdom you have appointed him. For yours is the might and yours is the

Deacon: In peace let us pray to the Lord.
For the peace of the whole world, the stability of the holy Churches of God, and the union
of all, let us pray to the Lord.
For our Bishop Nicholas, for his priesthood for his perseverance, peace, health, and
salvation and for the works of his hands. Let us pray to the Lord.
For the servant of God Sergio, now raised to be a priest and for his salvation, let us pray to
the Lord.
That the Lord may grant him a pure and blameless priesthood, let us pray to the Lord.
For this city, every city and country, and for all the faithful who dwell in them, let us pray
to the Lord.
For our deliverance from all afflictions, wrath, danger, and necessity, let us pray to the
Lord.

Remembering the all holy, the spotless, the most highly blessed, our glorious lady, the
Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary, with all the saints, let us commend ourselves and one
another and our whole life to Christ God.

Bishop: O Lord God, great in power, unsearchable in wisdom and wonderful in your
condescension towards the sons of men, you have been pleased to grant to this your
servant the order of the priesthood. Fill him now with the gifts of the Holy Spirit that he
may be worthy to stand blamelessly before your holy altar, to preach the Gospel of your
kingdom, to serve the word of your truth, to present you with spiritual gifts and sacrifices,
and to renew your people by the laver of regeneration: so that, in your great goodness, he
may receive the reward of a faithful servant in his master’s house at the second coming of
your only begotten Son, our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. For worshiped and

The Divine Liturgy then continues as usual. After the Epiclesis the bishop places a particle of
the Holy Bread in the priest’s hand saying:
Bishop: Take this in rust and guard it until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ when it will
be reclaimed by him
Preparation for Communion (preparación por la Comunión)
Deacon: Now that we have remembered all the saints, again and again in peace let us pray to the
Lord. All: Lord, have mercy.

Deacon: That our God who loves mankind, having received these gifts on His holy and mystical altar
in Heaven as a sweet spiritual fragrance, may send down upon us in return His divine grace and the

You Father, O God of Heaven and to say:
All: Our Father, who art in Heaven, Hallowed be Thy name, Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be
done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as
we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Todos: Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo, santificado sea tu Nombre; venga a nosotros
