JOKE THAT A PRIEST CAN TELL
UNA BROMA QUE PUEDE CONTAR
EL CURA
Late one night, a burglar broke into a house
he thought was empty. He tiptoed through the
living room but suddenly he froze in his
tracks when he heard a loud voice say: "Jesus
is watching you!" Silence returned to the
house, so the burglar crept forward again.
"Jesus is watching you," the voice boomed
again. The burglar stopped dead again. He
was frightened. Frantically, he looked all
around. In a dark corner, he spotted a bird
cage and in the cage was a parrot. He asked
the parrot: "Was that you who said Jesus is
watching me?" "Yes," said the parrot. The
burglar breathed a sigh of relief and asked the
parrot: "What's your name?" "Clarence," said
the bird. "That's a dumb name for a parrot,"
sneered the burglar. "What idiot named you
Clarence?" The parrot said, "The same idiot
who named the Doberman Jesus."
Empezó a caminar y entonces
otra vez escuchó, “¡Cristo te está mirando!”
Tenía miedo y se paró. Miró alrededor, y a
jaula. Le preguntó, “¿Eres tú que dijo que
Cristo me está mirando?” El loro lo afirmó.
El ladrón sentía mejor, y le preguntó,
“¿Cómo te llamas?” “Vaquero.” Riendo, el
ladrón exclamó, “Es un nombre estúpido;
ATTENTION ADULTS WHO HAVE NOT
RECEIVED FIRST COMMUNION OR
CONFIRMATION OR WHO HAS NOT
BEEN BAPTIZED
If you or someone you know has not received
one or more of these Sacraments of Christian
Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and Holy
Communion) or perhaps was baptized in
another faith community and now is
considering becoming Catholic, please speak
with Father Scott after Mass or during the
week. We are putting a list together of
persons who are interested and will hold a
meeting at a convenient time in September
for questions and to set up a plan for
instructions.
SOBRES PARA LA COLECTA
Es recomendado que todo parroquiano recibe
los sobres de iglesia para las colectas
parroquianas.
Si no,
tus oraciones ya son muy importantes. Favor
nosotros.
ADVICE ON PRAYER
(Catechism for Children by St. John Vianney)
CONSEJO SOBRE LA ORACION
(del Catecismo para Niños de San Juan Vianney)
My little children, reflect on these words: the
Christian’s treasure is not on earth but in heaven.
Our thoughts, then, ought to be directed to where
our treasure is. This is the glorious duty of man: to
pray and to love. If you pray and love, that is where
a man’s happiness lies.
Prayer is nothing else but union with God. When
one has a heart that is pure and united with God, he
is given a kind of serenity and sweetness that makes
him ecstatic, a light that surrounds him with
marvelous brightness. In this intimate union, God
and the soul are fused together like two bits of wax
that no one can ever pull apart. This union of God
with a tiny creature is a lovely thing. It is a
happiness beyond understanding.
We had become unworthy to pray, but God in his
goodness allowed us to speak with him. Our prayer
is incense that gives him the greatest pleasure. My
little children, your hearts are small, but prayer
stretches them and makes them capable of loving
God. Through prayer we receive a foretaste of
heaven and something of paradise comes down upon
us. Prayer never leaves us without sweetness. It is
honey that flows into the soul and makes all things
sweet. When we pray properly, sorrows disappear
like snow before the sun.
Prayer also makes time pass very quickly and with
such great delight that one does not notice its
length...Some men immerse themselves as deeply in
prayer as fish in water, because they give themselves
totally to God. There is no division in their hearts.
O, how I love these noble souls!...
How often we come to church with no idea of what
to do or what to ask for. And yet, whenever we go to
any human being, we know well enough why we go.
And still worse, there are some who seem to speak
to God like this: “I will only say a couple of things
to you, and then I will be rid of you.” I often think
that when we come to adore the Lord, we would
receive everything we ask for, if we would ask with
living faith and with a pure heart.
