Weekly Reflection
Reflexión Semanal
Trusting the Lord
Confiando en el Señor
Today’s Entrance Antiphon proclaims, “Within your will,
O Lord, all things are established, and there is none
that can resist your will. For you have made all things,
the heaven and the earth, and all that is held within the
circle of heaven; you are the Lord of all.” This proclamation reminds us of God’s intention for us at the beginning of the world. The story from Genesis shows God’s
concern for his creation. He intended for Adam and
Eve to be happy in the Garden of Eden. The Responsorial Psalm describes the Hebrews’ understanding of
such a life, “You shall eat the fruit of your handiwork;
your wife shall be like a fruitful vine; your children like
olive plants around your table. Behold, thus is the man
blessed who fears the Lord.” Adam and Eve did not
experience such an idyllic life because they disobeyed
God. This disobedience, the origin sin, prevented them
from giving their hearts to the Lord.
In the epistle,
Saint Paul reminds us that, “for a little while [Jesus] was
made ‘lower than the angels,’ that by the grace of God
he might taste death for everyone.” Jesus came to restore our relationship with God the Father so we could
once again approach him with the trusting heart of a
child, which Jesus tells us in the gospel is necessary to
gain heaven. Because we have,
at times, lost trust and complicated
our lives due to the “hardness of
our hearts,” today’s readings remind us to aspire to live according
to God’s design for our happiness.
Jesus reminds us that he has given us the opportunity to trust
again. God awaits us with open
arms for “[he] is good to those who
hope in him, to the soul that seeks
him” (Communion Antiphon).
desobedecieron a Dios.

OUR LADY OF THE ASSUMPTION SCHOOL STUDENT NON-DISCRIMINATION POLICY
The school, mindful of its mission to be a witness to the
love of Christ for all, admits students regardless of race,
color or national and/or ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made
available to students at the school.
The school does not discriminate on the basis of race,
color, disability, medical condition, sex or national and/or
ethnic origin in the administration of educational policies,
admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and
athletic and other school-administered programs, although certain athletic leagues and other programs may
limit participation and some archdiocesan schools operate as single sex schools.
While the school does not discriminate against students
with special needs, a full range of services may not always be available to them. Decisions concerning the admission

believed that because I went to school and
took science classes, I already knew everything about how the world and the universe

few years ago I married my wonderful wife who's Catholic. So I thought I would get in her good side and go to
church with her every week. So there I was sitting at the
back of the church and thinking wow what a nice group of
people. My wife then exclaimed "wow did you hear the
choir? I have to go sing with them!" So, thinking I would
really get some major points, I joined the choir with
her! Our amazing choir was so loving and welcoming
even though I wasn't Catholic! I left Mass every week

¿Sabia Usted?
Enseña a sus hijos como
defenderse contra los acosadores
o “bullies”
acoso
o
“bullying”,

Family to Family is a nonsectarian non-profit organization,
formed originally by parishioners of Mission Church, to
serve hot nourishing meals to homeless and needy of
Ventura. It has been in operation for the past 33 years;
presently serving at Catholic Charities site. The Parishioners of Our Lady of Assumption have been serving on
two days every month (2nd and 4th Sundays). The cost of
food served is the responsibility of each coordinator and is
raised by soliciting food contributions, from volunteers
who come to help serve. Due to family reason, the coordinator for the second Sunday serving has relinquished her
responsibility effective September of this year. Family to
Family is in need of a coordinator to take over the 2nd
Sunday feeding. If interested please call Pat McLean at
805-658-2610.

your empty bottle home, fill it with your spare change (bills
and checks are also welcome!) and bring your bottle back
on the following Sunday. Any questions please contact
