STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE
WEEK OF MAY 8 /
REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD
PARA LA SEMANA DEL 8 DE MAY
On this Seventh Sunday of Easter, most
Catholics in the United States also
celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. Traditionally,
Ascension Thursday occurred 40 days
after Easter (May 5 this year); however,
most dioceses in the U.S. have
transferred this Holy Day of Obligation
to the Sunday following it, which this
year is today.
Christ’s Ascension is important to us. It
is one of our core beliefs, to the extent
that when we profess our faith at Mass,
regardless which Creed we use, we declare, “He ascended into
heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.” To deny Christ’s
Ascension is to deny His Resurrection. Before His Ascension, which
is described in our First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Jesus
tells His followers, “…you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
We, too, have been baptized and imbued with the Holy Spirit. This
Third Member of the Holy Trinity is the aspect of God that lives and
empowers each of us. We may think that the Holy Spirit has more
work to do among those who do not believe, but there is also
considerable work to be done among those of us who do believe. We
are called to serve; we are called to discipleship; we are called to lives
of stewardship; we are reminded of that in all of today’s readings.
In his homily on the Ascension of Christ last year, Pope Francis said,
“The Ascension tells us He is with God the Father, where He always
intercedes in our favor.” For more reflections and information on
stewardship please visit http://www.thecatholicsteward.com.

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima
Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
Why do I believe it is important to tithe? When I realized that everything that I am, everything that I have, belongs to God, who is very
generous with all of us. I came to believe that it is important to give
back a little bit to God at the Sunday liturgy. Every day God showers us with so many blessings, material and spiritual—all free. The
least we can do is give back to God a little bit of those blessings in the
form of a donation to our parish for its daily expenses. Growing up in
Mexico I learned that there is a part of the Mass called offertory when
we give a monetary offering. The word used in Spanish for the offering is “Limosna.” But limosna is what is given to a beggar or “limosnero.” Limosna is unwanted change that we have in pockets. Little by
little the Church in Mexico is changing the word Limosna to offering.
God is not a beggar who gets unwanted coins at the Mass. He is the
source, the owner of everything in the universe. So at the offertory we
simply give back to Him a small percentage of our earnings, not as an
obligation, but with gratitude, trusting that he will provide every day,
according to our needs.
SATURDAY 5/14
Fr. Salvador Landa
Acts 7:55-60; Ps 97:1-2, 6-7, 9; Rv 22:12-14, 16-17, 20; Jn 17:20-26 or
(for Ascension) Acts 1:1-11; Ps 47:2-3, 6-9; Eph 1:17- 23 or Heb 9:2428; 10:19-23; Lk 24:46-53
nuestra ofrenda, no tengamos miedo!

3rd Annual Prime Rib Roast Beef Dinner & Auction
JUNE 4, 6PM / MCGOWAN HALL
The evening will include a hosted wine/beer bar, prime rib dinner
and music. There will also be an opportunity to bid on really great
gifts in a silent and live auction. Last year’s dinner had close to 300
attendees and is the only one of its kind in Southern Orange County!
It serves as one of the most important annual fundraisers for the San
Clemente Pregnancy Resource Center. The proceeds from previous years helped to purchase a mobile ultrasound unit which will
be on display at the dinner. One hundred percent of the proceeds
from this year’s event will be allocated to cover the ongoing annual
maintenance costs to keep this mobile unit in operation and expand
its services to the local community. So join us for a great time and a
great cause! Please RSVP for childcare. Call David Cortens/ Knights
of Columbus at 366-0716 or Kathy Eisele at 933-8019 for information. Tickets are available at the parish office.

Christ wrapped around them. Our mission is to
provide hope, comfort and healing to those who
most need a reminder of God’s love for them
through the work of our human hands and the
prayers in our hearts.
At these meetings, we share the stories of the
people who have received shawls, discuss successes and challenges
with our current projects and enjoy snacks and refreshments as we
support and rejoice with one another in our journey. For more
information or if you know someone who would be comforted by
receiving a shawl immersed in prayers of healing and comfort, please
