1. I will cry if they call me. Lloraré si me llaman.
2. I would cry if they called me. Lloraría si me llamaran.
3. I would have cried if they had called me. Habría/Hubiera llorado si me
hubieran llamado.
4. I doubt that they have called me. Dudo que me hayan llamado.
5. I hope that they call me tomorrow. Espero/Ojalá que me llamen mañana.
6. I wish that they would call me. Ojalá que me llamaran.
7. I wish that they had called me. Ojalá que me hubieran llamado.
8. They want me to call THEM. Quieren que los llame.
9. I had been writing for hours when they called me. Literal: Había estado
escribiendo por horas cuando me llamaron. What they’d really say: 1) Hacía
horas que escribía cuando me llamaron. 2) Llevaba horas escribiendo cuando me
llamaron.
10. I don’t like it that they call me so late. No me gusta que me llamen tan
tarde.
11. Perhaps they will call me. From the rules you have learned, you could say:
Es posible que me llamen. But there is another, easy subjunctive rule you could
use: After perhaps/maybe (quizás, tal vez), use subjunctive if you are more
doubtful than certain, but use indicative if you are more certain than doubtful.

Ex: Tal vez/Quizás me llamen (implies uncertainty). Tal vez/Quizás me llaman
(implies liklihood).
12. It bothered me that they never called me. Me molestaba/molestó que no me
llamaran nunca.
13. I invited them to call me. Los invité a que me llamaran. (invitar is
followed by the preposition “a”)
14. They asked if I had called them. Me preguntaron si los había llamado.
(note: this is NOT an if/result clause that sets up a hypothetical situation and a
probable outcome. It is just asking for facts/information, requiring indicative)
15. They aren’t going to call but rather write to me. No me van a llamar sino
escribir.
16. I became furious when they called me. Me puse furiosa cuando me
llamaron.
17. I took a nap before they called me. Eché una siesta antes de que me
llamaran.
18. I will go (volverse) crazy if they don’t call me. Me volveré loca si no me
llaman.
