Tomada underlined the value of collective bargaining defining it as “the most democratic institution in labour relations. Because a country without collective bargaining is a country with wages set by decree, in a discretionary manner.” “Today we can feel proud worldwide on this issue. Just a few countries have this institution working in the public sector. We set the example of a good practice which has to be shown,” the head of the labour portfolio held. In turn, Rial pointed out that “there is no democracy, no unions without bargaining, and the right to strike cannot exist.” “Democracy is a fundamental need for bargaining both in the public and the private sector,” the official finally said. The book is supported by the Nation’s Ministry of Labour and the International Labour Organization (ILO), which proves the importance and centrality collective bargaining has acquired over the past years both in the public and private sector.
