VINCENT DEPAUL SOCIETY Holy Spirit Conference Periodically, our SVdP group at Holy Spirit will share stories about some of the clients we help in our Home Visit Ministry. Everyone is welcome This past month we met with a woman in her mid-30’s who is Service is the rent that you pay living in transitional housing in our for room on this earth. area. Her husband left her, taking custody of their children. She continued in this trajectory for several years. She was not allowed access to her girls, she became homeless and, eventually, lived on the streets. At the bottom of this spiral, she found help through Union Gospel Mission and, over time, worked her way back to the woman she once was. She has a good relationship with her husband and has her daughters every weekend. What she needed from our SVdP Conference was $100.00 to meet her rent payment for that month. We provided that and other information to help her avoid this predicament again. Through the help of Union Gospel Mission (and the Saint Vincent de Paul at HSP), she has just begun working on a degree in Social Services at a local community college. She intends to pay back the community by working for a non-profit agency focusing her skills on the poor. A success story! We start every home visit with a prayer before meeting with the client. We ask our Father to provide all that we need as we do His work. Our hope is to give our clients not only material goods, but also our love and blessing. The families or individuals we help are not only former drug addicts or prison inmates who have served their time and are now trying to change their lives for the better. We also help many families struggling to provide for their children. It is a wonderful feeling of satisfaction and happiness when our clients express their gratitude for what we have done to help them, whether it’s materially or spiritually. Thank you to our Holy Spirit Parish community for your generous donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society each first Sunday of the month. You make all of this possible.
