City of St. Cloud employees assist in community food pantry efforts

St. Cloud, Fla. – City of St. Cloud employees donated their free time, personal items,
non-perishable food, and cash to assist the community during this holiday season. The
City sponsored a rummage sale and car wash fund-raiser Saturday, Dec. 12, at the
CenterState Bank (2801 13th St.) parking lot. All proceeds from these two events were
donated to the St. Cloud Community Pantry Wednesday, Dec. 16 – a total of $2500.34
and food estimated at about $500.
The timing was perfect, according to St. Cloud Community Pantry Chairman Pete
Barber. “During that weekend, we barely had enough food to feed 10 families,” he said.
“We are so appreciative of the City Council and staff, and to the community as a whole,
for assisting us throughout the year. This is a major donation that will go to help quite a
few people who need it, especially during the holidays.”
City of St. Cloud assists the pantry year-round by providing the use of a City
building and utilities, and making donations from funds raised, such as donations
collected at the grand opening of the Southside Wastewater Treatment Facility and the
18th Annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon.
“This is definitely not the first time that City employees have made donations to the
food pantry,” said rummage sale and car wash organizer and City facility coordinator,
Terri Hurt. “However, I believe this has been the broadest effort. We had City employees,
Boy Scouts, high school students, husbands, wives, and children of employees pitching in
on Saturday. As soon as the word went out that we were going to put this event together,

volunteer offers and donations started pouring in – cash, checks, food, toys, used items; it
was just incredible, beyond words. And we’re proud of our community, too. We had
CenterState Bank donating the location, McDonald’s and Kentucky Fried Chicken
allowing us the use of their restroom facilities, and citizens stopping by to donate items,
including a stove that was donated to our firefighters to assist a family who may
experience a fire in their home. And even those who came to the rummage sale bought
items and then donated a few extra dollars to help the community – it was just amazing!”
Hundreds of personal items were donated by City employees to be sold at the
rummage sale. The City’s efforts impressed many of those who stopped by the rummage
sale/car wash; so much so, that they were inspired to donate food to the pantry before
Christmas Day. City employees also donated new, unwrapped toys for the St. Cloud Fire
Rescue annual toy drive. With these efforts, City employees have once again shown their
devotion to the community they proudly serve.

fueron donados al St. Cloud Community Pantry el miércoles, 16 de diciembre – un total
de $2500.34 y alimentos estimados en aproximadamente $500.
El momento fue perfecto, según Pete Barber del St. Cloud Community Pantry.
“Durante ese fin de semana, apenas teníamos suficientes alimentos para alimentar a 10
familias”, dijo él. “Estamos muy agradecidos del Concilio y del personal de la Ciudad, y
de la comunidad en total, por ayudarnos a través del año. Este es un donativo muy
importante que irá a ayudar a bastantes personas que lo necesitan, especialmente durante
los días festivos”.
La Ciudad de St. Cloud ayuda a la despensa durante todo el año al proveer el uso de
un edificio de la Ciudad y utilidades, y al hacer donaciones de eventos recaudadores, tales
como la gran apertura del Southside Wastewater Treatment Facility y el almuerzo de
Acción de Gracias anual para la comunidad.
“Esta definitivamente no es la primera vez que empleados de la Ciudad han hecho
donaciones a la despensa de alimento”, dijo la organizadora de la venta de artículos
usados y lavado de automóviles y coordinadora de facilidades de la Ciudad, Terri Hurt.
“Sin embargo, creo que este ha sido el esfuerzo más amplio. Tuvimos a empleados de la
Ciudad, Boy Scouts, estudiantes de escuela superior, esposos, esposas, y niños de
empleados que dieron una mano el sábado. Tan pronto como el mensaje de que íbamos a
organizar este evento se diseminó, ofertas de voluntarios y donativos comenzaron a llegar
– dinero en efectivo, cheques, alimentos, juguetes, artículos usados; fue incredible, más
allá de lo que palabras puedan expresar. Y estamos muy orgullosos de nuestra comunidad
también. Tuvimos a CenterState Bank donando el lugar, McDonald’s y Kentucky Fried

Chicken permitiéndonos el uso de sus facilidades de baño, y los ciudadanos que pararon
para donar artículos, inclusive una estufa que fue donada a nuestros bomberos para
ayudar a una familia que pueda experimentar un incendio en su hogar. E incluso las

dólares extra para ayudar a la comunidad – simplemente increíble”!
Cientos de artículos personales fueron donados por empleados de la Ciudad para ser
vendidos en la venta. Los esfuerzos de la Ciudad impresionaron a muchos de los que
pasaron por la venta/lavado de automóviles; tanto así, que ellos fueron inspirados a donar
alimentos a la despensa antes del Día de Navidad. Los empleados de la Ciudad también
donaron juguetes nuevos y desenvueltos para el St. Cloud Fire Rescue, que anualmente
conduce una colleción para los niños. Con estos esfuerzos, empleados de Ciudad han
mostrado una vez más su devoción a la comunidad que ellos sirven orgullosamente.
