TRIP ITINERARY IGUAZU FALLS 12th to 16th August 2016 Friday 12th August Meeting point: 3PM/6PM (two meeting times): Avenida Sarmiento 2715 (half a block from Plaza Italia) We leave Buenos Aires and go to Las Ruinas de San Ignacio. Please be on time. Saturday 13th August 10AM: Arrival at Las Ruinas de San Ignacio (1) 12PM: Lunch in the city of San Ignacio 05PM: Check in to the hostel 11PM: Welcome party in a club in the city (Optional, free activity) (1) RUINAS DE SAN IGNACIO: Las Ruinas de San Ignacio, declared by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1984, are the ruins of a civilisation designed by Jesuits and built by the Guaraní tribe, whose efficiency stood out almost 400 years ago. San Ignacio is found in the Argentinian province of Misiones, around 250km from Iguazú. Cost of entry: Foreigners (AR$180 pesos) Mercosur (AR$150 pesos), Argentinian or foreigner with DNI (AR$110 pesos). Price: Foreigner ($330 pesos), Mercosur ($250 pesos), Argentinian residents ($200 pesos). (2) GRAN AVENTURA: La Gran Aventura brings together the spirit of Iguazú National Park: the jungle and the waterfalls in one unique journey and is highly recommended for all. It involves a 5km tour in a Jeep, finishing up in the forests of Puerto Macuco. You will then descend 100m to the pier where you will climb on board a speedboat which will take you 6km back up the canyon of the lower Iguazú river towards the waterfalls, enjoying the mighty rapids until you literally end up underneath the waterfalls. Price: $800 pesos. (3) TRIPLE FRONTERA: The place today known as “Hito de las Tres Fronteras” (Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay) is where the Iguazú waterfalls originated from some 200,000 years ago. The Iguazú and Paraná rivers converge here. Activity included in the price of the trip. th
Monday 15 August 07AM: Breakfast in the hostel 08AM: Guided tour of the Cataratas do Iguaçú -­‐ Brazilian side (1) 02PM: Lunch in a Brazilian steakhouse (2) 05PM: Return to Buenos Aires (1) PARQUE DO IGUAÇÚ: Established in 1939, and home to the largest remnant of Atlantic forest in the south of Brazil. Price: Foreigners, R$57.30 (USD$15 / AR$382 argentinian pesos), Mercosur: R$46.30 (USD$12 / AR$ 308 argentinian pesos). You are able to pay by credit card and cash (2) Brazilian steakhouse: We are going to stop off for lunch in a typical Brazilian restaurant. This local restaurant offers a large variety of food – including hot and cold options – buffet at a fixed price. You can eat as much as you like. Price: $180 pesos. * For those who need a visa and CAN’T go to the Brazilian side of the waterfalls, there are the following trips: § Güira Oga: Meaning, “Birdhouse” in the Guaraní language. It is known in the region as the only refuge for wild animals found in the Misiones Rainforest; more specifically, in the Protected Landscape "Andrés Giai", close to the city of Puerto Iguazú. The place has interesting and ancient vegetation, with trees up to 30m tall, containing around 40 different species. Additionally, it contains a vast variety of butterflies, roughly 50 species. Price: AR$120 pesos § La Aripuca: Theme Park. The word “Aripuca” comes from the name of a Guaraní snare which was used to capture animals without injuring them. Built from trees rescued from the illegal timber trade, “La Aripuca” is imposing at 17m tall, containing 30 native species from the Misiones Rainforest – many of the examples are centuries old. When entering the monument you will be able to walk over every one of the tree trunks. Price: AR$70 pesos §
Icebar Iguazú: A new and attractive themed bar that lets you to live a unique experience in the Rainforest under the stars, where your senses will guide you through something you’ve never previously experienced – everything is frozen, from the chairs to the bar – all inside a subtropical rainforest. Everyone can create their own itinerary. * Remember to bring your Passport, as we will be visiting the waterfalls of the Brazilian side. Please inform a trip coordinator and don’t forget to bring your medicine. * Bring anything you want to drink and snacks for the outward bus journey. * Games, cards and any ideas to make the journey more fun are welcome.
