The U.S. dollar is referred to as “el
dólar.” (NOTE that the Spanish
pronunciation is not the same as in
English. Focus on the vowel
sounds and pronounce the accent
on the “o.”)
el peso (=currency of Españolandia)

change)
cambiar (to exchange)
contar (to count)
pagar (to pay)
caro(a) (expensive)
barato (inexpensive)
No está bien. (That’s not right) (i.e.
the change, or amount paid)
¿Cuánto es? (How much is it?)
¿Cuánto cuesta? (How much does it
cost?)
Important Information:
In Españolandia you must use the official money of the country to buy
things. This is the “peso españolandés” which you can get at the bank by
exchanging American money.
The exchange rate is 10 U.S. cents to one peso. (10 pesos to one U.S.
dollar)
You can exchange any pesos you have left over back to American money as
you leave the country.
There are three banks in Españolandia. One at the entrance, one at the exit
and one in the center of town.
