Dear Hudson Bend Middle School Parent/Guardian,
I am proud to announce that 31 students at Hudson Bend Middle School received State Recognition with
Duke TIP this year! Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) is a nonprofit organization
dedicated to serving academically gifted and talented youth. Dr. Brad Lancaster and the LTISD school board
would like to recognize the awesome accomplishments of both HBMS and LTMS 7th Grade Duke TIP
recognition recipients this year! This acknowledgment will take place at the next school board meeting on
Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in the board room at the Education Development Center (EDC). Due to a high number
of students being recognized also participating in the National Junior High Society, Hudson Bend’s NJHS
induction will now begin at 7:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria, instead of the original time at 6:30 p.m.
On Monday, May 23, Lake Travis High School will host HBMS and LTMS 8th graders for our 10th annual
Freshman House Party – SHARK CAMP! Teen Impact SHARKs, PALS, and high school staff will provide
a fun-filled day designed to provide incoming freshmen with the information, experience, and insight they will
need to make a successful transition to high school next year. By the end of the day your student will have
made new friends, be connected to students from both middle schools in a common “SHARK School”, have an
idea of how to get around LTHS, and feel confident and excited about starting high school life at Lake Travis
High School next year! Students will be transported to LTHS from their middle school campus.
All current 5th graders scheduled to attend HBMS next year are coming to Transition Camp at Hudson Bend
on Monday, May 23. Students will arrive on busses at 9:15 a.m. and will be returning to their home campus
for lunch. Everyone will get to tour the school, get their questions answered by a student panel of current 6th
grader students, and participate in a Table Talk with 6th grade teachers. I know our elementary students are very
excited to see their future middle school campus!
Author, P. J. Hoover, is coming to Hudson Bend Middle School on May 24, 2016. Ms. Hoover will spend the
morning at Hudson Bend presenting to each grade level. Barnes & Noble Booksellers are providing students
with the opportunity to pre-purchase P.J. Hoover’s books. The Hudson Bend Library will receive 20% of
each book sold! Order forms are available on the HBMS website and must be returned to Ms. Hendricks with
payment by Tuesday, May 17, 2016. Please send checks made out to HBMS or the exact amount in cash for the
cost of the book as we will not have change available.
Our annual awards ceremonies are scheduled at Hudson Bend Middle School for May 25 and 26 of this
year. Students in the 6th grade will receive awards on Wednesday, May 25, at 9:00 a.m. The awards ceremony
for 7th grade will be at 2:30 p.m. the same afternoon. The following day, we will hold the 8th grade ceremony at
9:00 a.m. Parents are welcome at all awards ceremonies, to be in the main gym, and are scheduled to last for
about an hour and a half. Students will be recognized for perfect attendance, academic excellence, and Bucs in
Service, in addition to individual teacher awards. We hope that you are able to join us to recognize the
accomplishments of all our students!
End of the year field trips are right around the corner and permission slips are going out for all grade level
events. On Friday, May 27, 2016, the 6th grade class will have a private party at Volente Beach Waterpark. All
students in 7th grade will be going to Hawaiian Falls on Tuesday, May 31, 2016. Finally, our 8th graders will

make their annual pilgrimage to Schlitterbahn, a tradition in LTISD, on Wednesday, June 1, 2016. These events
are planned and sponsored by the PTO, and are a lot of fun for students, creating life long memories with their
classmates! We want all students to participate!! Please be sure to sign and return permission slips so that
your child may go on the end of the year field trip with their friends.
As we approach the completion of the 2015-2016 school year, the LTISD Food and Nutrition Services (FANS)
department has begun to settle all student meal accounts with a negative balance. Beginning Monday, May 16,
if a student’s meal purchase will result in a negative account balance, he/she will instead receive an
alternate meal in accordance with the district’s end-of-year ‘no negative balance’ policy. Please use this
opportunity to replenish your student's meal account at www.myschoolbucks.com. Remember, free prepayments are accepted in cash or check at your child’s campus café. To insure proper account credit, cash prepayments must be submitted in an envelope labeled with the student’s full name and student ID
number. Checks must indicate the student’s full name and student ID number and should be made payable to
‘LTISD.’ Recipients of meal benefits will continue to receive full meals at free or reduced price. For more

Austin Care Van will be at Lake Travis High School, Saturday, May 14th from 10:00-12:00 offering free
immunizations. Your child may be eligible for free vaccines/immunizations from the Caring for Children
Foundations’ Care Van if he/she has Medicaid, has no health insurance, has health insurance that does not cover
vaccines, or is an American Indian or Alaskan Native.

Estoy orgulloso de anunciar que 31 estudiantes de HBMS recibieron el reconocimiento Estatal de

El lunes 23 de mayo LTHS invita a los estudiantes de HBMS y LTMS de 8º grado a nuestro 10º
encuentro anual de “SHARK CAMP”! Estos adolescentes de impacto, Pals, y el personal de la escuela
secundaria proporcionará un día lleno de diversión diseñado para proporcionar a estudiantes de nuevo ingreso
con la información, experiencia y conocimientos que se necesitan para una transición exitosa a la escuela el
próximo año. Para el final del día el estudiante habrá hecho nuevos amigos de ambas escuelas, tendrá una idea
de cómo moverse en LTHS, con confianza y contento de comenzar en LTHS el año que viene! Los estudiantes
serán transportados a LTHS de su escuela.
Todos los estudiantes de 5to grado programados para asistir a 6º en HBMS el próximo año asistirán al
evento de transición de Hudson Bend el lunes 23 de mayo. Los estudiantes llegarán a las 9:15 am y
regresarán a su escuela para el almuerzo. Todos recorrerán la escuela, sus preguntas serán contestadas por un
panel de estudiantes que acaban de terminar su 6to grado, y participaran en una plática con los profesores de 6º
grado. Sé que nuestros estudiantes de primaria están muy emocionados de ver su futura escuela secundaria!
La Autora, P. J. Hoover, vendrá a HBMS el 24 de Mayo. La Sra. Hoover presentara a cada grado durante el
transcurso de la mañana. Barnes & Noble Booksellers están proporcionando a los estudiantes la

Nuestras ceremonias de premios anuales están programadas en Hudson Bend MS para el 25 y 26 de
mayo de este año. Los estudiantes de sexto grado recibirán sus premios el miércoles 25 de mayo, a las 9 a.m.
La entrega de premios para el 7mo grado será a las 2:30 en la misma tarde. Al día siguiente, llevaremos a cabo
la ceremonia de 8º grado a las 9:00 a.m. Los padres son bienvenidos en todas las ceremonias de premios, serán
en el gimnasio principal, y duraran de alrededor de hora y media. Los estudiantes serán reconocidos por
asistencia perfecta, excelencia académica, y Bucs en servicio, además de los premios individuales de los
maestros. Esperamos nos acompañe a reconocer los logros de todos nuestros estudiantes!
Viajes de fin de año están a la vuelta de la esquina y las formas para permisos para todos los eventos se
tienen que entregar ya. El viernes 27 de mayo de, 2016, la clase de sexto grado tendrá una fiesta privada en el
parque acuático de Volente Beach. Todos los alumnos de 7º grado se van a Hawaiian Falls el martes, 31 de
mayo. Por último, nuestros estudiantes de 8º grado harán su peregrinación anual a Schlitterbahn, una tradición
en LTISD, el miércoles, 1 de junio de 2016. Estos eventos se planifican y patrocinan por PTO, y son muy
divertidos para los estudiantes, creando recuerdos con sus compañeros de clase! Queremos que todos los
estudiantes participen!! Por favor asegúrese de firmar el permiso y regresarlo para que su niño pueda asistir
