income, of my time, of my talents? Today’s
Gospel suggests that only total stewardship
will do: “When you have done all you have
been commanded to do, say, ‘We are useless
servants. We have done no more than our duty.’”

October – Respect Life Month
In October, we celebrate Respect Life month.
Whether it lasts for a brief moment or for a
hundred years, each of our lives is a precious
and perfect gift. At every stage of life and in
every circumstance, we are held in existence
by God’s love. God invites us to embrace the
lives that we have been given, for as long as
they are given. Take time to celebrate and give
thanks for the gift of life. “Every life is worth
living”. Remember to take a baby bank help give to this great cause
by giving a donation.

A Prayer for Life
for Pro-Life Volunteers
Loving God, Creator of all, we recognize that life is a gift from
you. Open our hearts to your Holy Spirit and renew in us a deep
respect for all persons: the family, the unborn, the young, the
adult, the sick, the disabled, the abused, the imprisoned, the aged,
the dying, the homeless, the unemployed, and the oppressed in
any way. Bless all of us in our diocese and instill in us a deep love
for your gift of life. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother and Patroness of the Unborn, may all our words
and actions foster reverence for human life. May we be true witnesses to the truth that all life is precious and has sublime dignity.
Lead our nation and our world to this understanding so that we
may be a people dedicated to the protection of all your sons and
daughters. We ask this through your son, Jesus Christ, the Word

Priest Convocation
Every year the bishop convenes a meeting with all the priests of
the diocese which known as a “convocation”. Fr. Red Blevins and
I will be attending this year’s convocation and will be out of the
office Monday, October 3rd through Thursday, October 6, 2016.
There will be a Communion Service in place of Mass Monday,
October 3rd through Wednesday, October 5th. I ask that you please
keep Fr. Red, myself and the priests of the diocese in your prayers
while we gather for meetings and fraternal fellowship. Please be
assured of our prayers for all of you.

Youth Mass
We will be having the Youth Mass again this year. It will be held
the second Sunday of the month during the academic year. The
first Mass of the new academic year will be next Sunday, October
9, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. in the main church. All are welcome to attend.
I am also putting a word out asking any young people (high school
age and older) who would like to help and volunteer assisting at
this Mass during the year. If you are interested, please contact
Belinda Rodriguez, Director of Faith Formation or Carlos Meda,
Director of Liturgical Music.

Convocación Sacerdotal
Cada año el obispo convoca una reunión con todos los sacerdotes de
la diócesis conocido como una “convocación”. P. Red Blevins y yo
asistiremos a la convocatoria de este año y estaremos fuera de la oficina el lunes 3 de octubre hasta el jueves, 06 de octubre de 2016. Habrá
un servicio de comunión en lugar de la Misa el lunes 3 de octubre al
miércoles 5 de octubre. Le pido que por favor mantenga al padre Red,
y a mí y a todos los sacerdotes de la diócesis en sus oraciones mientras
nos reunimos en juntas y en comunión fraterna. Tenga la seguridad de

Misa Juvenil
Tendremos una misa juvenil otra vez este año. Tomará acabo cada
segundo domingo de cada mes durante el año académico. La primera
misa de nuevo año escolar será el siguiente domingo, 9 de octubre
2016 a las 5:00 p.m. en la iglesia principal. Todos son bienvenidos para
asistir.
También estoy pidiendo a jóvenes (edad de la high school secundaria
y mayores) que gustarían ayudar y de ser voluntarios para la Misa durante el año. Si usted está interesado, póngase en contacto con Belinda

Blessing of Animals:
It is tradition to bless animals on the Feast of St.
Francis of Assisi (October 4th). Today at 3:30 p.m.
we will have the blessings of the animals at the
steps in front of the main church. All are welcome
to bring your pets to be blessed. We ask that the
animals be properly secured on a leash or in a cage
for their safety as well as for their human friends.

Infertility & Miscarriage Support: Sarah’s Hope & Abraham’s Promise is a spiritual support
program for couples struggling with infertility and miscarriage. Based on Catholic teaching,
we combine the wisdom of modern medicine with the healing power of the Catholic Church.
We offer a women’s Bible study support group, couples healing retreats and prayer services
throughout the year.
Adoption Support: Destined: Families Built by Love is a spiritual support program and monthly
playgroup for adoptive families. Anyone who has built their family through the miracle of
adoption is invited to meet with other families to share the joys and challenges of adoption
and fostering. The playgroup meets once a month in different areas of Austin.

Deaneries Council of Catholic Women’s annual live auction on Saturday, October 15, 2015 at St. Theresa Church, 4311 Small Drive,
Austin. You are invited to attend the Deanery Mass at 9:00 AM. The
meeting and auction begins at 9:45 AM in the Family Center and will
conclude by 1 PM. A complementary brunch will precede the drawing

presented by St. John Paul II Life Center and The Vitae Clinic and
visit with pro-life organizations from all over the diocese to learn the
latest on teachings regarding abortion, embryonic stem cell research
and natural family planning from a life-affirming perspective. All
