“The Sea and the Unseen”
Every September for the past several years I go to the
Oregon coast and do some Dungeness crab fishing. I find it to
be a nice experience with nature, good physical work, and an
encounter of the mysterious: for I never quite know what I will pull
up from the dark waters of a Pacific bay.
The encounter with the mystery of God is similar. It is often precisely the fact that there are things I do not comprehend
about God which peak my interest in the Divine Being. For there
will always be more to God that I do not understand compared to
that which I have grown to comprehend. The reality of what we
know in relation to what God knows, (and what God knows of
us), must always accompany our daily routine and especially as
we carry our daily cross. We have to be mature in the knowledge
that our relationship with the Lord may not offer us any guarantees of earthly success, peace, or constant happiness. However,
the very fact that we have a relationship with God gives us the
energy to carry on – regardless of what the visible present or the
unseen future has in store for us. And sometimes, by the grace
of the good Lord, we actually do get a taste of true joy. This
week, I’m hoping for the taste of fresh Dungeness crabs. And if I
don’t get many or any . . . well, that’s all part of the mystery.

24° Domingo Ordinario

no obtengo muchos o ninguno. . . pues bueno, todo es parte del
misterio.
No hay Misa diaria esta semana. Aunque no habrá Misa el
miércoles, si tendremos el Rosario
a las 11:15am y
adoración hasta
las 5:00pm.
