Corría el año 1531. En México muchas personas
no conocían a Jesús. Por eso, muchos misioneros
venían desde España para hablarles de Él.
Los misioneros estaban muy ilusionados de
compartir con los mexicanos la Buena Noticia
del amor de Jesús.
In 1531, many people in Mexico had never heard
of Jesus. Missionaries came all the way from Spain
to tell the people about him. The missionaries were
very excited to share the Good News of Jesus’ love
with the people of Mexico.

Cerca de la Ciudad de México vivía un indito.
En náhuatl, su nombre significaba “águila que
habla”. Lo bautizaron con el nombre de Juan
Diego.
Near Mexico City lived a humble native man.
In his language of Nahuatl, his name meant
“talking eagle.” His Spanish baptismal name
was Juan Diego.

Un día, Juan Diego iba de camino a la ciudad
y, mientras pasaba al lado de un cerrito, se
detuvo a escuchar el hermoso canto de los
pajaritos. Cuando, de repente, una hermosa
señora se le apareció.
One day Juan Diego was on his way to the city.
As he walked by a little hill, he stopped to
listen to the beautiful singing of the birds.
Suddenly, a beautiful lady appeared.

La señora le dijo con dulzura: “yo soy María,
la madre de Dios. Busca en mi nombre al obispo.
Dile que deseo que aquí, en este mismo cerrito,
le construyan una iglesia a mi Hijo, Jesús”
The lady said kindly, “I am Mary, the Mother of God.
Go see the bishop. Tell him I want him to build a
church—on this very hill—for my son, Jesus.”
